Mimi,
You might need to generate a unique id attribute on the first <container> tag, and reference it in the parent attribute on the second <container> tag. You might need to write a script to generate those unique id and insert them into your existing EAD, before import.
Here is a sample of what my EAD looks like:
<c04 id="B-4eb687c6-a560-4d9b-8157-81947e5d281b" level="item"><did>
<unitid>SB/1/1/1/2</unitid>
<unittitle>Letter from A.A. Abrikosov and I.M. Khalatnikov to Robert Oppenheimer</unittitle>
<unitdate type="inclusive" normal="1966-06-10">10/6/1966</unitdate>
<physdesc>1 page</physdesc>
<container id="B-5c431f0e-a26d-420b-b24c-f6fddb4cf7c1" type="box" label="Text">1</container>
<container id="B-0171cf30-3535-4314-b2a1-eb7a40d7b3b1" type="folder" parent="B-5c431f0e-a26d-420b-b24c-f6fddb4cf7c1">1</container>
<origination label="Creator"><persname role="aut" source="naf" normal="Abrikosov, A. A.">Abrikosov, A. A.</persname></origination>
</did>
<dao xlink:href="http://libgallery.cshl.edu/items/show/59109" xlink:title="SB/1/1/1/2: Letter from A.A. Abrikosov and I.M. Khalatnikov to Robert Oppenheimer">
<daodesc><p>SB/1/1/1/2: Letter from A.A. Abrikosov and I.M. Khalatnikov to Robert Oppenheimer in CSHL Archives</p></daodesc></dao>
<controlaccess>
<persname role="rcp" source="naf" normal="Oppenheimer, J. Robert, 1904-1967">Oppenheimer, J. Robert, 1904-1967</persname>
<persname source="naf" normal="Khalatnikov, I. M.">Khalatnikov, I. M.</persname>
<subject normal="Congresses as Topic">Congresses as Topic</subject>
<corpname normal="Academy of Sciences of Russia">Academy of Sciences of Russia</corpname>
</controlaccess>
</c04>
The result of this import looks like this (link subject to change):
http://libgallery.cshl.edu:8081/repositories/2/archival_objects/51661
Unrelated – the role and source attributes of the persname tage are not picked up by the EAD converter. If anyone knows a work around, I would appreciated it/.
Thanks.

Subject: [Archivesspace_Users_Group] one instance splitting into two
Hello all-
We've exported a resource record in EAD from AS 1.1 using the derby test database into AS 1.2 using MySQL. One issue that came up is instances with Container 1 and Container 2 fields filled in were split so that there are now two instances each with Container 1 filled (so the first instance Container 1 is box #, and the second instance Container 1 is folder #). Is there a way to bulk correct this issue?
