[Archivesspace_Users_Group] Bulk upload resources vs components

Hi Katrina,
It’s been awhile since I had to do this for collections of my own, so people more “in the trenches” than me will likely have better ideas, but have you considered bulk exporting these MARC records, then using something like MarcEdit (http://marcedit.reeset.net/) to convert them into another format and maybe work on them in OpenRefine before importing them into ArchivesSpace? If you can break them up into a tab-delimited format and match it to the Harvard CSV plugin (https://github.com/harvard-library/aspace-import-excel) or use a tool like Steady (http://steady2.herokuapp.com/), that might be a way to bulk import these into an existing or new resource record in ArchivesSpace. You’d want to do the bulk of the work of organizing the 4000 MARC records into their 200 collections outside ArchivesSpace, though you could do this in multiple batches and use the Merge functionality within ArchivesSpace to combine records as needed.

Subject: [Archivesspace_Users_Group] Bulk upload resources vs components
Good day all! I have run across a dilemma that I'm wondering if any of you have found a solution for: uploading legacy records, specifically series level finding aids already formatted in MARCXML. Currently, you can upload those items as resources only and can't convert them to components. For me, this means my 4000 series already in MARC can't be organized into their 200 collections if I upload them as is. And if I convert them to the component upload I may as well enter them all individually it will require so much work! I asked to make sure and was told that "You can only use MARCXML or EAD to create resources, which cannot be converted to components."
Has anyone else run into this? How did you solve it?
