Hi all-

Recently, when searching the public interface, I discovered that a sub-record will display as a search result even if the "Publish" check box in the Basic Information form for the sub-record's parent resource record was cleared (disabled). If a user clicks on the sub-record search result, a window appears with the text "We're sorry, but something went wrong." What I think this means is, "The resource record that this search result belongs to is no longer publicly available."

There will be times when I would like to disable public output for a resource record and all its sub-records (series, subseries, and folders); for example, when staff need to edit the resource and associated sub-records. It seems cumbersome to have to uncheck all the sub-record "Publish" check boxes every time I want to disable output of the resource record in its entirety.

I had assumed that disabling output of the resource record will also disable output all of its sub-records. Is it possible to add this capability, and if not, could the message that users see when clicking on these sub-records be a bit more explanatory as to why the sub-records are not available?

Any thoughts/guidance is appreciated. Thank you!

Sarah

Hi Scott,

Not a stupid question at all...

ArchivesSpace follows the Rails convertions for organizing models, views, controllers, assets, etc.

That said...

There are two ways to customize the interface...the easiest is to add overrides to the plugins/locals directory.

For example, if you wanted to customize the basic layout file, you would put your updated customized erb file in plugins/local/public/app/views/layouts/application.html.erb.

Some documentation on plugins can be found here => https://github.com/hudmol/archivesspace/tree/master/plugins

A good tutorial on ASpace plugins can be found here http://teaspoon-consulting.com/articles/archivesspace-plugins.html

If you want to do a lot of customization, it might be easier to simply pull down the ASpace source code ( https://github.com/archivesspace/archivesspace ) and rebuild it it ( https://github.com/archivesspace/archivesspace/blob/master/build/README.md ).

Does this give you some ideas about the process?

Hi Everyone,

I'm brand new to the membership, and I hope this isn't a stupid question, but how does one start to customize the public interface?

In what directories are the images and CSS files kept? I didn't see any of this in the docs.

Thanks,
Scott
