[Lyrarl] Response requested re: Project MUSE Ebooks

Tom,

I can share that I expect there will be very little duplication on the participating publisher lists for Project MUSE and JSTOR. Each seems to be attracting a different set of publishers, and I gather there are a variety of reasons for this phenomenon. Neither MUSE nor JSTOR is requiring exclusivity as far as I know, but the publishers are generally selecting one or the other. Oxford now has University of California Press content, and DeGruyter has Harvard University Press content. Both of these presses have appeared on BOOKS at JSTOR publisher lists in the past, and I do not have an update about whether their arrangements with JSTOR are still in place or not.

We have been in contact with JSTOR to stay on top of their latest news about Books at JSTOR, but they have been rather quiet these past few months. We're planning to meet with them at ALA in person, and I will certainly keep this list informed about our conversation. They are aware that a lot of eyes are trained on them.

Celeste,

Pencil in your OPTION #2 for Kent State.

We hope to do a little comparison/contrast this summer between the Muse university press package and the JSTOR univ press package. (If you've already done so, will you share!? ;-)

Best regards,

Tom

Subject: [Lyrarl] Response requested re: Project MUSE Ebooks

As June 30 and the end of the fiscal year approaches for many of the US libraries, we'd like to have a quick show of hands about how your local decisions on the Project MUSE ebook offer through the ARL Licensing Initiative are proceeding. We've received some orders already, but as we turn our attention to more potential negotiations for university press ebook collections it would be helpful to have a broader sense of how this first offer has been received in advance of the August 31 deadline.
Please respond to Celeste at celeste.feather at lyrasis.org<mailto:celeste.feather at lyrasis.org> and let her know if:
1) Your library is considering a purchase of MUSE ebooks prior to June 30
2) Your library is considering a purchase of MUSE ebooks between July 1 and the August 31 deadline
3) Your library is not considering a purchase of MUSE ebooks.

Thanks,
Julia Blixrud (ARL)
