[Archivesspace_Users_Group] embedding digital object thumbnails in PUI

Dear ASpace Community,

We have recently begun working in a development instance of ASpace v2.8. I
am able to successfully display the generic digital object link in a
resource record:

However, after attempting variations on the instructions provided here

to replace the generic button with a thumbnail button, I've been
unsuccessful in successfully embedding a thumbnail. Instead I get this:

I've tried following the instructions for adding 2 file versions of the
URI--the last one with the setting XLink Show Attribute=embed. I've also
tried a single URI with the XLink Show Attribute=embed -- neither of these
options work.

Might there be a PUI configuration setting that needs to be changed from
the default in order to enable the thumbnail functionality.

I'd appreciate any guidance you can offer.
