[Archivesspace_Users_Group] specification for OAI-PMH responder available for comment

Hello ArchivesSpace members,

Thanks to excellent work done by Cory Nimer and Gordon Daines of Brigham Young University and Jason Loeffler of the American Academy in Rome, a detailed software requirements specification for an Open Archives Initiative - Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) responder for ArchivesSpace is now available for comment. The specification is attached and also included in the JIRA issue https://archivesspace.atlassian.net/browse/AR-803.

The purpose of the responder would be to support a low-barrier mechanism for interoperability between archival metadata stored in ArchivesSpace and enterprise discovery layers (e.g., Ex Libris Primo), metadata aggregators (e.g., OAIster, Mountain West Digital Library), and content management systems (e.g. CONTENTdm, Drupal, Omeka). It would not replace any of the existing ways to get data out of ArchivesSpace, but would provide another option to facilitate data exchange between systems. More details about how this would work are included in the specification.

The best way to submit your feedback is to comment on the JIRA issue. (You can sign up for an account on our JIRA site, if you don't have one already.) Alternately, please email Cory (cory_nimer at byu.edu<mailto:cory_nimer at byu.edu>). The group would like to receive all comments by March 31.
