NFAIS members should be aware that registration will be closing at noon on Tuesday, October 21, for the upcoming NFAIS Webinar, Improving Discovery and Access: Recommendations from the E-Data Quality Working Group. I provided some of the context surrounding this working group initiative on the Scholarly Kitchen Blog at: [ http://scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2014/10/14/finding-stuff-discovery-and-data-quality/ ]( http://scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2014/10/14/finding-stuff-discovery-and-data-quality/ )

The webinar on Thursday, October 23, features Noah Levin, Metadata Manager, Springer, Suzanne Kemperman, Director, Business Development, OCLC and Carlen Ruschoff, Director, Technical Services, University of Maryland. These three speakers are representatives of a cross-industry working group and contributors to a white paper, the subject of which is the topic for this 90-minute webinar.

The E-Data Quality Working Group—a cross-industry collaboration of academic libraries, publishers, aggregators, and knowledge-based providers—has been addressing these workflow concerns in an effort to improve discovery and access. In this 90-minute webinar, Kemperman, Levin and Ruschoff explain the nature of the challenge, and share recommendations from the working group to bridge the gaps.
You’ll learn:
The identified source of the problem.
How this problem impedes the success of the user in discovering and accessing desired content.
Gaps that must be bridged between suppliers of bibliographic and holdings data, and libraries and service providers.
The benefits of stakeholders collaborating more closely to resolve issues.
Recommendations for improving data quality.
The NFAIS webinar is scheduled to run between 11:00am (EDST) and 12:30pm. As always, should you find you have a conflict with that timing, registered participants are granted access to the recording of the event.

If you or your staff want to learn more about this critical aspect of discovery in the academic library environment, you’ll want to register now by visiting [ https://nfais.memberclicks.net/index.php?option=com_mc&view=mc&mcid=72&eventId=443572&orgId=nfais ]( https://nfais.memberclicks.net/index.php?option=com_mc&view=mc&mcid=72&eventId=443572&orgId=nfais ) .
