DESCRIPTION: 
 The Vendor Relations Specialist (VRS) is responsible for ensuring that the quality and appearance of APA electronic databases meet APA standards on all delivery systems, including our own, APA PsycNET. The VRS monitors the weekly and monthly releases of all PsycINFO products. There are 8 products: PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, PsycBOOKS, PsycCRITIQUES, PsycEXTRA, PsycTESTS, PsycTHERAPY, and electronic PsycSCAN subset products. Additionally, the VRS leads the annual reload project and monitors the reload of all databases on 3rd-party vendor systems. Monitoring vendor platforms includes searching each platform regularly for 1) data loading timeliness and accuracy, 2) data and display implementation anomalies, 3) proper tag and field labeling, 4) interface searchability and usability, and 5) correct information about PsycINFO products in fact sheets and user documentation. In addition to weekly releases, monthly releases, and annual reloads, the VRS monitors and verifies the loading of weekly correction and deletion files on all vendor systems. The VRS analyzes delivery trends on each vendor platform and monitors the implementation of other bibliographic databases on the same vendor platforms for new features and enhancements. The VRS develops a structure for analyzing vendor platforms and creates a system for reporting and synthesizing data errors or anomalies and interface usability problems. This position integrates a great deal of technical and searching information from all vendor platforms and is essentially an expert on the nuances of searching and retrieval of information on multiple platforms and interfaces. To carry out these functions, the VRS works closely with the  Quality Assurance Specialist, Product Development Specialist, Electronic Publishing Support staff, PsycINFO Management, and vendor technical and systems staff.  In essence, the work of the VRS promotes customer satisfaction and helps to maintain PsycINFO's reputation for high-quality products within the information industry.
 
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 -A bachelor's degree in psychology or computer science is the minimum requirement.
-A master's degree in psychology, library science, or computer science is highly preferred.
-This position requires at least 3-5 years of experience in searching 3rd-party vendor platform systems, preparing search queries or scripts, and using Boolean logic.
-3 years of experience working with relational databases and database file structures is necessary. This experience can be substituted for a degree.
-Having an understanding of database design principles is essential and in-depth knowledge of 3rd-party vendor systems and transactional systems is required
 
 
 
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
 Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
 Proficiency in using FTP Utilities
 Familiar with SQL
 Proficiency in XML/HTML/SGML tagging
 Proficiency in using commercial search platforms
 Proficiency in using 3rd-Party vendor platform systems
 Knowledge of database design principles and database structure techniques
Proficiency in using relational databases
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 1. Manages APA's approval of 3rd-party vendor presentations of APA electronic databases and provides final approval. Monitors and searches these platforms, including APA PsycNET, on a weekly basis for proper uploading of data. Verifies and screens each vendor platform for the timeliness of each upload, including correction and deletion files.  Gives feedback to vendors on changes in their loader programs. Creates specific searches to isolate potential data problems and reports both data anomalies and platform implementation or record display problems to the Product Development Manager, and Production Management staff, if necessary. If data errors are found and need to be corrected, works with the PsycINFO Quality Assurance Specialist on the corrections process. Creates a customized reporting system for  1) analyzing data timeliness, 2) investigating errors in released data, and 3) enhancing platform usage and searchability.

 2. Tests and evaluates (alpha testing and/or beta testing) annual reload data and system enhancements for functionality prior to release to the marketplace for APA Electronic Products).   Leads all reload activities and writes the technical documentation/specifications for product releases, including reloads. Troubleshoots data errors and data customization techniques (e.g., concatenating fields) used by vendors for their search interfaces. Ensures that the vendor display of PsycINFO database records are not counter to technical specifications and that they fit the display of similar records in other databases on the same vendor platform. Works with the technical staff of our 3rd-party vendor platforms to resolve technical problems.

 3. Reviews routinely all fact sheets, information sources, and technical documentation on all vendor platforms for accuracy and currency of the information.  Ensures that the most up-to-date information regarding PsycINFO products including content and coverage, fields and tags, and indexes is appropriate and correct.  Certifies all documentation on 3rd-party vendor platforms prior to release to their customers.

 4. Serves as expert searcher on APA and vendor systems; demonstrates and promotes APA electronic databases on various systems at library, psychology, and related exhibits and conferences worldwide. Serves as resource for staff in other departments who write documentation, search or references guides, and other promotional materials.

 5. Searches competitor database systems for new fields, design options, and other potential database enhancements. Provides competitive intelligence data to Product Development management staff and PsycINFO senior management. Participates in the evaluation and testing of new information technologies, systems, and programming tools that could benefit APA's current database products.
