Today on the Official Google Blog, there was an announcement of the Google
Art Project (http://www.googleartproject.com). This project offers partial
access to masterworks from the collections of the likes of the Met in New
York, the Tate in London, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and 14 others. The
images are displayed in a "super high-resolution" format that permits the
viewing of the image at a level of detail similar to being within an inch of
the work's physical surface. The project also takes advantage of the Street
View technology to permit views of full rooms such as the Hall of Mirrors in
the Palace of Versailles.

This is a fascinating use of Google's technologies and influence to promote
awareness of these special collections. Navigation may prove a little
challenging initially, but it's well worth your time to explore here.
