Subject: [Lyroffers] American Chemical Society eBooks Build-a-Group

Over the past year LYRASIS has been using a technique that we call "Build-a-Group" to leverage our community interest in certain products and obtain better offers and discounts from content providers.

We have begun negotiations with the American Chemical Society (ACS) regarding their STEM ebook collection<http://pubs.acs.org/series/symposium>, and we would now like to use the "Build-a-Group" strategy to organize a group of libraries interested in acquiring this content. The ebook collection is also formally known as the ACS Symposium Series, but the content is not comprised of conference proceedings. The ebooks are compilations of edited chapters by various authors organized around a central topic.

Our Build-a-Group process is as follows:

First, we need to gather a group of highly interested libraries. We would like to attract libraries of all sizes and negotiate on your behalf if these ebook collections are of interest to your users. Negotiation possibilities are greater when an offer can be structured to fit a known group of libraries. Please don't assume that the pricing will be out of reach! If you are interested, let us know.

Second, we will negotiate with ACS for a customized offer for this group and then share the offer with the interested libraries. No library will be asked for a final commitment until we have negotiated pricing.

All LYRASIS members are eligible to participate in this offer unless they are currently in a multi-year agreement for ACS ebooks that lasts beyond calendar year 2014.

We have scheduled two 20 minute webinars with ACS to provide more information about their STEM ebooks. Please register for one of the sessions below<http://www.lyrasis.org/Pages/EventDetail.aspx?Eid=B6FAC36B-DF2E-E411-88A4-002219586F0D> to learn more.

About the ACS STEM eBook Collection Offer

The ACS ebook collection contains approximately 1,400 peer-reviewed STEM e-books developed by the ACS technical divisions, published from 1950 to the present. Each book and chapter is authored and edited by an expert in the field, and the collection of chapters is again edited by an internationally recognized leaders in the field. The series covers a broad range of topics including agricultural and food chemistry, cellulose and renewable materials, chemical education, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, materials, and more.

The ebook collection features:

* Content for one-time purchase with unlimited use

* Unlimited concurrent use, and no technical restrictions on printing and downloading

* Rights management that is covered by a library's existing ACS agreement

* No annual hosting fee for ACS Web Editions journal customers, modest fee for other libraries

ACS has shared with us some general ballpark list pricing for some of these collections in order to provide a baseline for your consideration. In print, these book titles have an average list price of $150.00. If we are successful in building a strong group of libraries, the prices we will be able to negotiate will of course be lower than the list prices.
