<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">I know that a multi-year license raises concerns about potential financial difficulties or commitments in future years. Our LYRASIS central license with Springer includes the following clause about a library’s
ability to opt out of a multi-year agreement in the case of financial stress:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<h2 style="margin-top:0in;text-indent:0in"><i><span style="font-size:10.0pt">If a Participating Institution’s ability to pay its annual fee under a multi-year Agreement is reduced during the term of the Agreement, the Institution is given the option of opting
out during the term of this agreement. Notice of such termination must be given by 31<sup>st</sup> October of the preceding year. Termination must take effect on January 1<sup>st</sup> of the calendar year. If a Participating Institution terminates after
a calendar year begins they will not receive a refund of all or part of the license fee based on their subscriptions for that calendar year.<o:p></o:p></span></i></h2>
