From Sharla.Lair at lyrasis.org Thu Sep 7 09:00:00 2023 From: Sharla.Lair at lyrasis.org (Sharla Lair) Date: Thu, 7 Sep 2023 13:00:00 +0000 Subject: [Lyropen] Lyrasis Announces New Partnership with DOAJ Message-ID: [cid:1ba26c35-d683-4f30-ba98-2f5276681e58] Hello everyone! Libraries can now support the Directory of Open Access Journals through Lyrasis. Lyrasis announced this exciting new partnership with the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), a non-profit, community-led organization that provides an extensive index of peer-reviewed, open access journals from around the world, in a recent press release. DOAJ makes it easy for libraries to integrate trusted open access journals and articles into their discovery systems and helps librarians to help researchers identify quality open access publications venues. DOAJ also plays an important role in building a diverse and inclusive publishing ecosystem, supporting the development of Open Access standards on a global level and ensuring the discoverability of journal content from smaller publishers. The Lyrasis Content & Scholarly Communication Initiatives division actively seeks diverse opportunities to affect positive change. We are excited to provide the library community with the opportunity to invest in key infrastructures that now support open access journals, via DOAJ, as well as open access books, via our partnership with the Directory of Open Access Books. We encourage libraries of all types and sizes to consider supporting this program. 2023 DOAJ Academic Institutions Supporter Program Pricing The DOAJ Academic Institutions Supporter Program through Lyrasis is open to US libraries and institutions. Lyrasis membership is not required to participate. 5,000+ FTE: $3,000/year 1-4,999 FTE: $1,500/year To learn more about this program or to participate, please contact membersupport at lyrasis.org. The SCOAP3 Governing Council has voted, and the 2023 SCOAP3 for Books collection of 21 front list titles is now finalized. These titles were carefully reviewed by an international panel of physics experts out of a pool of 60. Many thanks to those of you who have already pledged your support. For those of you who have not yet pledged, we anticipate the SCOAP3 for Books collection will be of interest to a broad array of institutions that support a robust physics curriculum. All books will be published with CC-BY or CC-BY-NC licenses. Among the 21 selected titles are 5 titles targeted to advanced undergraduate students, including 3 that are written specifically to be textbooks. The remaining titles are targeted for graduate students and researchers, including 4 textbooks. In total, there are now 81 physics books in Open Access on the OAPEN platform from the initial SCOAP3 for Books pilot program in 2021. The OAPEN Library hosts more than 25,000 Open Access books across all disciplines. All libraries are invited to participate in the 2023 SCOAP3 for Books program. Call to Action You can enter your funding pledges by September 30, 2023, at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6ST5GJR. Funds from US libraries will be combined with funds from libraries in other countries around the world to support the SCOAP3 for Books collection, and the 21 titles will be published OA as funds gathered allow, in the priority order as listed on the title list. Requested support levels are shown below. Lyrasis will provide invoices to US institutions after the funding period ends. Type of Organization Funding Amount Doctoral higher ed institutions and DOE Research Labs $6,600.00 Masters higher ed institutions $4,400.00 Baccalaureate higher ed institutions $1,500.00 Other supporters $500.00 Thank you, and please address questions to Jill Grogg at jill.grogg at lyrasis.org. We?ll explore some of the benefits and challenges of moving a journal from a large, commercial publisher to a non-profit university press, and how the new journal better prioritizes the interests of this community. The webinar is part of MIT's celebration of Open Access Week, whose theme this year asks us to think about what's lost when a shrinking number of corporations control knowledge production rather than researchers themselves. Speakers * Stephen Smith, professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Oxford and editor-in-chief of Imaging Neuroscience * Nick Lindsay, journals and open access director at MIT Press * Moderated by Katharine Dunn, scholarly communications librarian at MIT Register here: https://libcal.mit.edu/calendar/events/OAweek2023 Date: Thursday, October 26, 2023 Time: 10:00am - 11:00am (EST) Location: Zoom Thank you, Katharine Katharine Dunn (she/her) Scholarly Communications Librarian Scholarly Communications & Collections Strategy MIT Libraries 617-253-9879 khdunn at mit.edu http://libraries.mit.edu/scholarly [Text Description automatically generated] -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
