Call for librarians to join KU 2023 Selection Committee Knowledge Unlatched invites librarians to join its Selection Committee for a new round of pledging. Librarian members of the?KU Selection Committee?have an active say in selecting the quality and scope of titles KU will include in future collections. Therefore, titles selected for the KU Select Collections are not chosen by KU or by publishers but by the library community to ensure that the chosen titles are the most relevant ones for library users worldwide when they are published as Open Access in 2024.? * What:?New?applications for the KU 2023 Selection Committee * Who:?Interested?librarians in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences * When:?Applications deadline is March 9, 2023; the voting process takes place between?March 20-April 13, 2023 * Where:?Application via this online form?/?Voting process via?KU online portal Knowledge Unlatched 2022 Pledging Results Overall, KU will facilitate the publishing of 283 books Open Access (OA) in 2023. These include 184 books from the KU Select 2023 Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Books Collection and the two KU Focus Collections (Climate Change and Global Health). Additionally, approximately 99 books from the KU partner collections will be made available OA. Other content to be unlatched or made available OA includes the publishing of 700 peer-reviewed blog posts and 10 videos. Finally, KU assists in the sustainability of 52 journals through their Subscribe-to-Open (S2O) partnerships and an additional four journals from the final year of their KU Select Journals collection. More information is available in the KU press release. KU will be updating its dashboards regularly to give libraries a full overview of titles and their corresponding status. If you do not have a user account, please reach out to your KU representative, and they will be happy to set one up so that you can keep track of the status of the titles: * Click on KU: Unlatching Dashboard for the status of unlatched titles and links to each * Click on KU: Upcoming Titles Dashboard to see the forthcoming titles KU is currently in discussion with their publishing partners regarding new collections for 2023 will be sharing opportunities to pledge beginning in May. New for 2023 * SDGs ? Open access is vital to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: the SDGs. KU is organizing the content for KU Select 2024 in SDG subject packages to emphasize the applied value and impact of the content to supporting institutions and the world. * Open Opportunities ? Last year, KU did a pilot for KU Open Opportunities in collaboration with the University of Michigan Press and is applying principles from the pilot to KU Select 2024. KU will reserve up to 10% of unlatched titles for researchers with insufficient funding for fee-based OA publishing. The titles will undergo the same selection committee review as all titles.? * Frontlist focus ? Library supporters increasingly want to support frontlist rather than backlist titles, and in KU Select 2024, KU will only offer to unlatch frontlist titles. KU may revisit backlist titles in future collections.? Jill E. Lyrasis has established a national partnership for Open Syllabus Analytics (OSA), which is a service that provides top-down views of syllabi across thousands of schools to help faculty, staff, and publishers improve student outcomes. Syllabi are made available in normalized, anonymized formats that are searchable via topic, authors, title, etc. Since this is a new service unlike anything we have offered before, we are offering a 60-minute introductory webinar on Tuesday, March 21st, 2023 at 1 PM ET. Joe Karaganis, Director of Open Syllabus, will go through the service and talk about the platform, its capabilities, use cases and new features such as: * A new affordable learning OER module that identifies Open Educational Resources in syllabi: https://blog.opensyllabus.org/whats-in-a-name/ * A new gender statistics dashboard that explores gender ratios across syllabi: https://blog.opensyllabus.org/closing-the-oer-information-loop-2022-data/ The webinar will be recorded. Please register for the webinar here: https://www.lyrasis.org/Content/Pages/Event-Details.aspx?Eid=4E568A8C-E9AE-ED11-80FF-00155D0A2732 Lyrasis is also offering all users, regardless of Lyrasis membership, a free 30-day trial of the service. This is one last reminder about an open investment opportunity. Last fall, Lyrasis announced a new principle-aligned partnership with the University of Toronto Press to build a funding community in support of the Journal of City Climate Policy and Economy (JCCPE). JCCPE is a new Subscribe to Open peer-reviewed journal that publishes evidence-based policy and economics research in support of cities around the world as they focus on human-centered solutions to today?s most pressing climate challenges. C40 Cities is a network of mayors of nearly 100 world-leading cities collaborating to help limit global heating to 1.5 degrees C and build healthy, equitable and resilient communities. The C40 Centre for City Climate Policy and Economy supports JCCPE as it brings together a community of researchers, city practitioners, and leading economists to provide mayors and policy makers with the evidence, analysis and guidance needed to implement climate action policies. Since last fall many libraries around the world have come together to support this important new journal, but they still need more support so that they can reach their funding goal by March 31, 2023. Help sustain Open Access publishing of this journal through Subscribe to Open JCCPE is available through a Subscribe to Open (S2O) model in order to achieve broad dissemination of content. S2O is a sustainable and equitable revenue model that does not include article processing charges. Institutional subscribers access the content through subscription, as with a regular subscription model. Once an annual subscription threshold is met, the volume year becomes available as Open Access (OA). This makes the content available to all without any cost to authors. Benefits for Subscribing to JCCPE Benefits for Libraries: * Perpetual access to purchased volume, whether or not the OA threshold is met * Exclusive access to advance access articles, which are published within weeks of acceptance and in advance of issue publication * OA Publish Guarantee for lead authors from a subscribing institution Benefits for JCCPE Authors: * Equity in opportunity to publish with no article processing charges (APCs) * OA Publish Guarantee for lead authors from a subscribing institution * Broad dissemination of scholarship both within and beyond the academic environment Benefits for the Global Community: * Extends access of high-quality content outside academia and across global communities * Equitable and fair global scholarship * Promotes more inclusive and diverse authorship Learn more about JCCPE * NEW Podcast CITIES 1.5 * A podcast dedicated to progressive policy conversations with urban leaders taking action to limit global heating to 1.5 degrees. Listen to the trailer. * Read the first issue Pricing* Tier 1 | Doctoral-granting institutions - $715/year Tier 2 | Masters-granting institutions - $570/year Tier 3 | Bachelor?s-granting institutions - $430/year Tier 4 | Associate-granting institutions $285/year *Institutions can participate in a three-year commitment and be invoiced annually or for the full three-year payment upfront. License Agreement A license agreement is NOT required to participate in this journal. However, for those that require one, the attached license agreement for JCCPE is based on the new S2O model license developed through the recent efforts of Information Power, ALPSP, and cOAlition S to help smaller publishers transition their content to open access. It is library-friendly and contains terms specific to the Subscribe to Open revenue model. Take Action! For more information or to participate by the March 31, 2023 deadline?, please contact membersupport at lyrasis.org or your Lyrasis regional member representative.
