ROR is a community-led project to develop an open, sustainable, usable, and unique identifier for every research organization in the world. ROR IDs are designed to be implemented in any system that captures institutional affiliations and to enable connections (via persistent identifiers and networked research infrastructure) between research organizations, research outputs, and researchers. ROR IDs can now be used with the ORCID API and the ORCID Affiliation Manager tool to add affiliations to the ORCID registry, and ROR is also now the default organization ID provider for all affiliations that are added to ORCID records manually by individual users. Join us for a community call on July 12 hosted by the ORCID US Community, where we will learn more about ROR and ORCID, with guest speakers Liz Krznarich, Technical Lead at ROR, and Paloma Mar?n-Arraiza, Engagement Manager at ORCID. ORCID US Community Call: ROR & ORCID * When: Tues. Message-ID: LYRASIS is pleased to announce that the supporters of the LYRASIS Open Access Community Investment Program (OACIP) have achieved the 2022 funding goals! This second round of OACIP included three OA diamond journals in need of investment: * Algebraic Combinatorics (ALCO) is a peer-reviewed mathematics journal owned by mathematicians, dedicated to free dissemination of research, and committed to non-APC OA publishing, with no fees for authors or readers. * History of Media Studies (HMS) is a new, peer-reviewed, scholar-run, diamond OA journal founded to augment understanding of the ways that media have been conceived, investigated, and studied around the world. * Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication (JLSC) is a peer-reviewed, OA journal with no article processing charges. JLSC is particularly interested in the intersection of librarianship and publishing and the resulting role of libraries in both content dissemination and content creation. Thank you to the 39 institutions from four countries that offered financial support to make the second round of OACIP successful. Because of your action each OACIP journal met their five-year funding goal well before the deadline. Please take a look at our ORCID Community Awards - ORCID US Community for more information. Meet our LEADING Program Fellows! We are pleased to share that the ORCID US Community will be partnering with the LEADING program (Library/Information Science (LIS) Education and Data Science Integrated Network Group), led by the Drexel University Metadata Research Center, from July-December 2022. We will be working with two data visualization fellows to show trends in researcher activity and assessment of ORCID adoption across the US based on publicly visible information in US researchers' ORCID records, as well as provide guidance and documentation on how members of the ORCID US Community can use ORCID data to create their own visualizations. Some initial ideas for questions that we could answer via ORCID data visualizations include: * What collaborations have taken place between researchers at US institutions? * What collaborations have taken place between researchers at US institutions and researchers at other institutions across the globe? * What are the most common keywords used on US-based researchers' ORCID records? * What are the most prominent "migrations" of researchers between US-based institutions? If you have ideas about other questions that you would be interested in seeing answered through this data visualization project, please let us know by filling out this brief form. The two fellows we will be working with are: * Negeen Aghassibake (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1497-9745), Data Visualization Librarian, University of Washington Libraries. Negeen received her MSIS (2018) from the University of Texas at Austin. Her interests include inclusive data practices and accessible visualizations. Negeen is excited to be a part of the LEADING program and bring back what she learns to support library users at the University of Washington. * Olivia Given Castello (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2721-9809), Head of Business, Social Sciences, and Education, Temple University Libraries. Olivia holds an MLIS with a concentration in Digital Libraries from Drexel University College of Computing & Informatics and is currently pursuing a graduate certificate in Geospatial Data Science at Temple University. Her research interests include user experience, research and data services, and data curation. She is excited to be part of the LEADING program and hopes to deepen her understanding of how data science can be applied in libraries to build access and connections that benefit library users. NSPM-33 & ORCID In January 2021, the White House released a National Security Presidential Memorandum (NSPM-33) on United States Government-Supported Research and Development National Security Policy. NSPM-33 directs Federal agencies conducting and awarding research funds to establish policies related to use of Digital Persistent Identifiers (DPIs, also known as Persistent Identifiers (PIDs)) for researchers' disclosure of information during funding application and reporting workflows, including but not limited to affiliations/employment, funding support, and positions. ORCID is the only DPI for individuals that meets the requirements stipulated in the NSPM-33 guidance. It is expected that all Federal agencies will begin to allow grant applicants to use ORCID for transferring disclosure information during the grant application process, and some agencies may choose to require that ORCID be used. The ORCID US Community is keeping track of any developments on NSPM-33. We will provide updates as we hear them and compile and present relevant resources. From time-to-time, we will have community calls and conversations on NSPM-33 as it relates to ORCID. Register to attend our "ORCID & NSPM-33" webinar on July 21 to learn more about ORCID & NSPM-33 and what you can do to prepare. Upcoming Events Please consider attending our upcoming community calls, webinars, and other events. Visit our Events page for details and for future ORCID US Community events.
