From Sharla.Lair at lyrasis.org Wed Aug 24 13:00:17 2022 From: Sharla.Lair at lyrasis.org (Sharla Lair) Date: Wed, 24 Aug 2022 17:00:17 +0000 Subject: [Lyropen] University of Michigan Press Meets 2022 Open Access Books Target Message-ID: The University of Michigan Press has announced that they have reached their 2022 goal of publishing 50% of frontlist monographs open access through its Fund to Mission program. You can read more about this accomplishment in today's LYRASIS Now blog post. Thank you to all of the early supporters, including over 100 libraries and the University of Michigan provost whose collective efforts made this happen! This is only the beginning. As more libraries support Fund to Mission, a larger portion of UMP's frontlist will be published as open access. The goal for 2023 is to make at least 75% of their frontlist monographs open access. We invite institutions of all sizes and budgets to learn more about this program and consider how your institution can sustainably support OA publishing of scholarly monographs. Fund to Mission Program The University of Michigan Press (UMP) has been taking steps to develop a publishing program that aligns with their mission and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Based on these principles, UMP has been transitioning to an Open Access (OA) monograph model called "Fund to Mission." Libraries are invited to continue to participate in the University of Michigan Press Ebook Collection (UMP EBC) by way of their current fair pricing. However, rather than only funding a paywalled collection, an increasing percentage of titles become Open Access. By committing to purchase one of the UMP EBC packages, libraries: * Support the conversion to 75% (~60) of University of Michigan Press scholarly monographs in 2023; * Receive perpetual access to the remaining restricted frontlist titles and term access to the backlist (~2,000 titles), which will otherwise remain closed to non-purchasers; * Support authors' ability to publish innovative, digital scholarship leveraging the next-generation, open-source Fulcrum platform. 2022 Fall Featured Offer For a limited-time UMP is extending the following special offer on all of their ebook packages that can help your library's stewarded funds go further: A 5% discount will be applied to the purchase of any of the following collections with a commitment to purchase made by December 16, 2022: * UMP EBC Frontlists * The Transitional Collection (2021 - 2023) * Upfront purchase of 2021, 2022, and 2023 collections * Libraries will own these titles in perpetuity as they become available and will have term access to the backlist through 2023. * 2023 Frontlist Collection (including complementary term access to backlist) * UMP EBC Backlists * Single Year Backlist Collection (2012 - 2021) * Backlist Bundle (2012 - 2021) More information about the collection, licensing and pricing is located at http://bit.ly/LYRUMPEBC. The ORCID US Community invites you to join us on September 19 for an ORCID US Community Showcase Webinar, where we will cover: an introduction to ORCID and the ORCID US Community, an update on global adoption of ORCID, and an overview of how the new ORCID Affiliation Manager tool works, with insight from colleagues at two ORCID US Community member organizations about their experience using the tool. ORCID US Community Showcase Webinar featuring the ORCID Affiliation Manager * When: Monday, Sept. 19 @ 3-4pm Eastern/ 2-3pm Central/ 1-2pm Mountain/ 12-1pm Pacific * Register to attend: Meeting Registration - Zoom * Featured case studies: * University of Georgia - Bob Scott, Director of Special Projects at the University of Georgia Graduate School, will share how they have been using the ORCID Affiliation Manager to write education affiliations to graduate students' ORCID records. * University of Pennsylvania - Nicky Agate, Assistant University Librarian for Research Data and Digital Scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania, will share insight on their experience with using the ORCID Affiliation Manager to add affiliations to faculty ORCID records.
