According to my notes, we are planning to divide into two groups. One will be focused on the user interface, and the other on the technical upgrade. The conversation today leads me to believe that it is likely that we will migrate to the latest version of Drupal, and that the site will continue to be hosted at LYRASIS. This is not a decision set in stone however, so if during your early work you come to believe that a difference choice would work better, that?s fine. Brandon Weigel from BC ELN volunteered to liaise between the two groups. Christy Karpinksi from ATLA volunteered to lead the user interface group, with Sarah Probst from ConnectNY. Sharla Lair from LYRASIS will provide input based on her current user management activities for the site. Tom Boone from WRLC will lead the technical upgrade group, with Joel Shields and Aaron Blake also from WRLC. Blake Carver from LYRASIS, who is the current admin for the web site, will assist as needed. We agreed that the work would be done during calendar 2020, as that deadline will provide a comfortable margin before the version of Drupal currently in use at the site is no longer supported in the fall of 2021. LYRASIS will set up a listserv to be used for communication among the group members as we go forward. Onwards! We want the new website to be functional and serve ICOLC?s needs, so we can?t simply migrate the existing site to Drupal 8 as-is. We need a clear sense of what we want this website to be: what it?s for, what kind of content should (and should not) exist there, what kind of structures we need to support it. We should be aiming to build something that fulfills specific, well-defined functions. If a new function is defined later on, it should be easy to build the structures that support it within the existing framework. So before the tech team can make any moves, we need the following from the design team: A well-defined purpose for the site: Who will be using the site, and for what purposes? What functions should it fulfill? A list of functional requirements: What operations are we enabling, and how will they interact? How will users interact with the site? (both end-users and logged-in members) Some design notes/mockups, such as menu structure, etc. If the design team would like, I could provide some of the documents BC ELN put together when we did our website migration, which cover these elements. > I know Christy, Sarah, and Sharla have met about the user interface. Please include me in these discussions, so I can fulfill my liaison role! We need these two groups connected. Do you have notes from this meeting? I have created a Google Folder to hold all output created by the ICOLC Website Taskforce. You can access the folder here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XOU-Nal0Tk1-sg2dcTEOHBboqzYbdkFS?usp=sharing Right now, this folder contains two folders - one for the Tech Team and one for the Design Team. Being on the Design Team, I have started drafting documents that we require to take next steps. I've set up permissions so that anyone who has access to the above link can edit anything in the master folder. I am assuming this means that everyone can also create documents and other folders within the master folder. Please let me know if you are having any access issues. Thank you!
