I just spoke with Celeste and we are over 90 subscribers already. Clearly there is interest in this topic. Please stay tuned as we develop initial plans for a call and look at ways we can productively focus our conversations, both via this list and in related discussions. Best, Susan -- Susan M. Message-ID: <74EEF78A84671C4A929C946EF06B9E0B01169B198F89@ssexch3.ssad2.com> Hello, This new list is perfect timing as the Appalachian College Association is in the implementation stages of a DDA pilot program with JSTOR and we are discussing how to assess the pilot. Determining whether our pilot succeeded or not will be important, but how do we measure that. So, rather than starting from the beginning, I am hoping that others have created assessment instruments for this type of pilot program. Or maybe I should ask this as what do you wish you collected, analyzed, etc. from the beginning that now would be useful to have. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Message-ID: Dear ICOLC eBook group members, We have had an amazing response to the idea of forming a group within ICOLC to discuss issues relating to ebooks. In conversation with Celeste and other early members, it seemed that doing brief [very brief] survey of the specific interest of the group would help us organize the initial discussions. To that end, we would appreciate your taking a few minutes to prioritize the discussion topics in this survey as well as add others that you believe are important. We have divided the topics into two major areas - those relating to cost/pricing/value models for ebooks and those relating to implementation/best practices. I will leave the survey open throughs *Sunday, May 31*, so would appreciate your completing it before then. It is only 3 questions and should not take more than 5 minutes. Once we have the results, we'll schedule an initial discussion focused on one or more of the topics that have the widest interest. Best, Susan -- Susan M. Notes on Operations: A Scenario Analysis of Demand-Driven Acquisition (DDA) of E-Books in Libraries (http://journals.ala.org/lrts/article/view/5681) Demand-Driven Acquisition (DDA) has been commonly adopted by academic libraries in the United States for acquiring e-books in recent years. Implementation of the e-book DDA model varies by library. This paper introduces and demonstrates a scenario analysis approach for libraries to evaluate, identify, and select a DDA plan that works best for them based on their DDA program data. This approach helps address some key questions facing libraries with a DDA e-book program: How may a DDA program be evaluated under different scenarios? Does a short-term loan (STL) option make sense? And, is the current DDA implementation a good fit for the library? The implications and related issues are discussed.
