In your second screenshot, it looks like the link might be active but the thumbnail image is unable to load. Is the URL that you're using for the image accessible from anywhere? Do the 2 URLs in the above digital object work in your instance?</div>

Last, I'm not sure about this, but I think that ASpace might just try to embed a thumbnail if the file extension is a jpeg or a gif. I thought this also happened in the staff interface, but I don't see that behavior in the sandbox, so I could be mistaken about
