Hello,

Our archivists have reported some confusion about the way ArchivesSpace generates sort names for Agents. When we began our migration, “Dates” was still a field within the Name Form section of the Agent data model, and so when we used it
to manage life dates for a person, the sort title pulled them automatically. Now that the life dates are stored in the Dates of Existence section, the sort title doesn’t pull them automatically anymore.

I’ve told them to override the option for automatically generating sort titles if they’re creating Agent records where the life dates are present, but it would be nice to be able to assign a primary date of existence in an Agent record
(similar to authorized/display forms of names) so that we can automatically have an expression of a single date or date range included in the sort title again. Not sure if others have encountered this as an issue, but since it’s been reported to me a few times
now, I thought I’d bring it up on the list.
