From psutherland at amphilsoc.org Thu Sep 7 14:16:04 2023 From: psutherland at amphilsoc.org (Paul Sutherland) Date: Thu, 7 Sep 2023 14:16:04 -0400 Subject: [Archivesspace_Users_Group] PUI & SUI custom tree display? Message-ID: Hi all, We're looking at the feasibility of using the ArchivesSpace PUI. This also relates to an issue we have with our legacy data in the SUI. We have a lot of collections arranged by component unique identifier, and where this information is not within the AO's title. I'd like to be able to put this information in the PUI & SUI trees. E.g. this collection has materials organized by component unique identifier, but the identifier does not display in the tree, making it confusing: [image: image.png] But I'd like to be able to display it like this: [image: image.png] And the same in the SUI, with custom unique identifier showing up as an extra column before title. Currently we have our own custom PUI that sets a custom order for these. We have to rely on this custom PUI to be able to navigate ArchivesSpace's SUI tree. Naturally a long-term solution may be to put this information in the title. We *also *have lots of collections partially arranged by agent and where agent is not in the title, for which it is again confusing to not be able to view the agent in the tree. This is more difficult to manage overall as whether we'd want agent to show up first would be collection-dependent, and there are larger issues with this approach overall. However it would be good if agent could also appear somewhere in the trees. Does anyone know of any customizations that people have done similarly? We also have lots of collections partially arranged by agent and where agent is not in the title, for which it is again confusing to not be able to view the agent in the tree. This is more difficult to manage overall as whether we'd want agent to show up first would be collection-dependent, and there are larger issues with this approach overall. However it would be good if agent could also appear somewhere in the trees. Does anyone know of any customizations that people have done similarly? Hi all, We're looking at the feasibility of using the ArchivesSpace PUI. This also relates to an issue we have with our legacy data in the SUI. We have a lot of collections arranged by component unique identifier, and where this information is not within the AO's title. I'd like to be able to put this information in the PUI & SUI trees. E.g. this collection has materials organized by component unique identifier, but the identifier does not display in the tree, making it confusing: But I'd like to be able to display it like this: And the same in the SUI, with custom unique identifier showing up as an extra column before title. Currently we have our own custom PUI that sets a custom order for these. We have to rely on this custom PUI to be able to navigate ArchivesSpace's SUI tree. Naturally a long-term solution may be to put this information in the title. We also have lots of collections partially arranged by agent and where agent is not in the title, for which it is again confusing to not be able to view the agent in the tree. This is more difficult to manage overall as whether we'd want agent to show up first would be collection-dependent, and there are larger issues with this approach overall. When working with the Public interface on 3.4 ( https://archivesspace.library.nd.edu/), we are unable to add additional search items using the "+" button. Instead of allowing additional search terms, the interface immediately launches the current search. Most likely, we have carried over something from our customization of the PUI page that is now interfering with the ability to add additional search items. But I'm not sure where to be looking and what might be missing. Has anyone else run into this issue? What might we have missed during our recent upgrade from 2.8.1 to 3.4? That collection actually has two pages of these arks (30 previous ones are listed). I'm assuming ARKs getting superseded like this has something to do with the OAI-PMH harvesting that our metadata colleagues set up for us, but I'm not sure. I don't understand what we're doing wrong to make SO MANY of them show up in the PDFs, which we use as finding aids for patrons or donors that are less tech savvy. Is there a way to make it so long lists of previous ARKs do not show up in the PDF exports? It would be ideal to not have all the superseded ARKs listed, since the people we are printing these things out for don't need them and won't understand what they are. FWIW, we're using version 3.3.2, and I haven't tried to see if this is happening in the sandbox because I'm not actually sure what is causing the ARKs to get superseded in the first place. Setting this to true will make// //+# database upgrade 158 attempt to clean up unwanted extra ARKs.// //+# When multiple rows in the ARK table reference the same resource// //+# or archival object, the first one created will be kept// //+# and the rest discarded.// //+# Use with caution and test thoroughly.// //+AppConfig[:prune_ark_name_table] = false/ But if you didn't know you had this problem when you were upgrading, you wouldn't have known that you needed to enable it. Unfortunately, setting it to true now won't do anything. The code it would've run is in database migration 158, which cannot be re-run a second time. It would probably be best to get in touch with Lyrasis, or your service provider if using a hosted system, to get help with your specific situation. Andrew.
