Message-ID: I am trying to make sure admins at my school can use the lcnaf plugin with 3.1.1 There are a few things I don't understand yet. I found an inherited line in the config file (commented out) that calls the plugin, along with "local" There is also a likely ancient lcnaf directory in plugins. So to modernize only the lcnaf plugin I will download unzip this directory and rename it lcnaf, replacing existing, stop the service then uncomment the plugin line in the config so that only lcnaf is active and restart the service. Also, what does this mean in the readme? I have migrated our accession data from an old MS Access database into Preservica and I used the collection management fields to import the processing status and related info, but now I would like to bulk import/create event records for all processed accessions (some 8000 records). I found this blog post from 2015 that describes doing so using the API: https://icantiemyownshoes.wordpress.com/tag/archivesspace-api/ Has anyone tried this or have any other methods to recommend? Are you using Events to track processing? Is it worth it? Initially, I wanted to create events so that we could use the "Unprocessed Accessions" report, which relies on events, but now that we can make custom reports, it seems less urgent. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hi Matt, I think your approach to updating the plugin is correct. I find it a little odd that the entire plugin config line is commented out, but that's not a bad thing if you choose not to run plugins. As for the plugin readme: I think that's an old comment that never got updated. (It should probably say "For ArchivesSpace version 3.x ...") But you would likely want to download the zip file from the 2.0.0 tag here: https://github.com/archivesspace-plugins/lcnaf/tags (The main/master branch of the plugin is slightly behind the 2.0.0 tagged release.) In our efforts to be NAGPRA compliant and to follow the wishes of the Tribe, I need to determine best method(s) of restricting these records based on the options available in ASpace. I cannot find any previous conversations around this topic, and am wondering if others have had to restrict records for similar reasons before or restrict in general. Local Contexts is an initiative offering digital strategies for Indigenous communities, institutions, and researchers through the TK (Traditional Knowledge) & BC (Biocultural) Labels and Notices. Local Contexts is focused on increasing Indigenous involvement in data governance through the integration of Indigenous values into data systems. After, ArchivesSpace community member Joshua Shaw will demonstrate the Local Contexts integration plugin he developed that integrates Local Contexts Labels and Notices with ArchivesSpace. Feedback from the ArchivesSpace community would be appreciated to ensure that the plugin works for a variety of institutions. Feature requests, bug reports, or suggestions for changes are encouraged. Exports (EAD, EAD3, and MARCXML) are of special interest and suggestions for improvement would be very welcome. Dr. Jane Anderson is an Associate Professor at New York University in Lenapehoking (New York) and Global Fellow in the Engelberg Center for Innovation Law and Policy in the Law School at NYU. Jane has a Ph.D. in Law from the Law School at University of New South Wales in Australia. Their work is focused on intellectual and cultural property law, Indigenous rights, and the protection of Indigenous/traditional knowledge, cultural heritage, and data. Joshua Shaw is a web and application developer at Dartmouth Library and works with a variety of applications including ArchivesSpace, Omeka-S, Drupal, and other digital collection software. He has been working with ArchivesSpace since 2014 and is a member of the Core Committers group. Recently, Joshua has been working on ArchivesSpace plugins focused on issues related to reparative description. We?ve had ArchivesSpace since version 2.7, and we currently run 2.8.1 with plans to move to 3.2.0 within the next month. During our initial setup and launch, a number of user accounts were created for our permanent archival, metadata and technical staff. Since then we have had two new members of staff who qualified for ArchivesSpace accounts on our local system. Unfortunately, it hasn?t been possible to create these accounts due to an issue in the staff user interface. I have populated the fields on the user form, and this is always done using the ?admin? account. When the form is submitted, the response is as follows: Invalid value 'local'. In these cases the problem still occurs. I have also tried dropping the entire database and created a fresh set of tables (without data) using the database setup script. This seems to work. Thus I conclude that something in the database affects the operation of the user creation component, and this is independent from the config file or code. Then select "Name Rule (name_rule)" from the List Name drop-down. If that list doesn't have a value of "local", or that value has been suppressed, that could be the cause of your problem. The issue is that creating system users also creates an (unpublished) agent record. So, if you've suppressed local rules for the naming of persons in your metadata, it'll won't be able to create the agent, so it won't be able to create the user either. Andrew. I've been working on some utilities for creating and updating top containers, locations, and barcodes via the API. I've run into an odd situation and I cannot figure out what is going on... 1. This particular Location was created several years ago (2018), and had a top container assigned to it. 2. Through the API, I recently assigned a location profile to it. 3. Examining the location through the interface, everything seems just fine. (ie https://our_aspace_url.edu/locations/:ID) 4. The location shows up fine in the browse list of locations: https://our_aspace_url.edu/locations?page=NNN 5. When I query the location directly in the api, the JSON is returned as expected: https://our_aspace_API_url.edu/locations/:ID) Here is the kicker, when I page through all the locations via the API ( https://our_aspace_API_url.edu/locations?page=NNN&page_size=250 ), this one location is not returned in the results. I thought it could be an error in how my loops were constructed, but I have actually examined all of the content returned from the server, and the location URI is never included. Oddly enough, my code reports that a duplicate location URI is returned by the server. I've verified this in the JSON returned while paging through the results too. However, the duplicate URI changes based on the value passed in the page_size parameter. Over the holiday break, we performed a re-index by deleting data/indexer_state and data/solr_index, then rebooting. No change in the results. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. The plugin allows you to generate unique identifiers for selected archival objects within a resource record that is then added to that object's Component Unique Identifier field. It also gives you the ability to download a simplified tsv file of those selected components. At NYU we use this to facilitate our digitization workflow that involves transferring archival materials between different departments, but we've also adapted it for other uses. This auto-generates a component_id when an archival object is saved without an ID, starting from 3000000 and incrementing by 1 each time (using ASpace's built-in Sequence). Note that this plugin requires some frontend tweaks to be truly functional, which is in a separate plugin repository, but it should give you an idea/basis to work from. Thanks, --Alex On Tue, Nov 29, 2022 at 9:35 AM Rachel Aileen Searcy > wrote: Hello Anna, You might want to look into the Digitization Work Order plugin, which might meet your needs. I'll also include a link to the portion of our local ArchivesSpace manual with instructions on how to use it. I'm happy to answer any additional questions you might have about it. Hope this is helpful. We have migrated from a system that used to autogenerate consecutive 6 digital numbers for all users. I do not want to create unique IDs that are tied to the collection/series/etc. because if we reprocess, renumber, or rearrange the collection, it means we need to change all the unique ids. Any ideas are appreciated! In the plugin that I linked, the identifiers are added during the before_validation step, which happens before the record is actually saved. We use this with a spreadsheet importer and never had issues with it not adding identifiers.
