[Archivesspace_Users_Group] Styling links in ArchviesSpace notes

Hi All,

To add on to the previously suggested solution: Using < extptr> embeds it as an HTML5 <embed>, rather than an image (<img>). HTML5 introduced the embed so that a variety of formats can be included.

I’m not familiar with AS enough to know why you can’t encode as an image, but I recommend including the following attributes for greater accessibility and to make your code more semantic.

Use an aria-label and alt to define the media type and alternative text:
<extptr href="http://library.cshl.edu/images/archives/datura-workers-1927.jpg" actuate="onload" show="embed" aria-label="image" alt="Scientists from the Department of Genetics of the Carnegie Institution of Washington pose in front of an academic building"></extptr>

If the image is decorative or redundant with text, use alt=""

Thanks,

Tom,

That is very helpful to know. Thank you!

Jerry,

You are able to include an image within the resource/collection description. Simply added within the Notes - Scope and Content section, the following tag:
<extptr href="http://library.cshl.edu/images/archives/datura-workers-1927.jpg" actuate="onload" show="embed"></extptr>

For including a link, we use the following construct:
<extref href="http://library.cshl.edu/personal-collections/amos-g-avery/collection-inventory">http://library.cshl.edu/personal-collections/amos-g-avery/collection-inventory</extref<http://library.cshl.edu/personal-collections/amos-g-avery/collection-inventory%3c/extref>>

These two constructs do not get sanitized, like the html construct would. No AS customization is required. I do not see why both would not work together.

An example of both is displayed here:

Hope that helps.

The Georgetown University Library uses DSpace to publish digital objects for our archival collections.

In ArchivesSpace, we will be constructing DAO objects that link to specific DSpace items.

At the ArchivesSpace resource/collection level, we would like to display a note that indicates that digital objects exist within the resource. We would like that note to link to a DSpace collection.

We are able to create a scope and content note that contains a hyperlink to a DSpace collection.

Additionally, we would like to display an inline image along with that hyperlink.

If we attempt to add html img tags into our scope and content note, we see that ArchivesSpace sanitizes the html and removes the img tags.

Is there a way to include inline images within a note (or another object) in ArchivesSpace?

So far, we have kept the code changes in our AS instance to a minimum. I suppose that we could create a custom note type and then render that note type on the front end with an inline image. If possible, we would prefer to avoid that level of customization.

Do you have any suggestions for how we could solve this problem?

Alternatively, we think it could be useful to be able to display DAO thumbnails inline for collection/resource objects.
