Public interface Container Inventory pagination + facets Message-ID: Hi folks, We think we found a bug, and would like to check with the community that it's in scope to report (aka, that it's really a bug, it's not specific to us, and it's not already been reported). In the public interface, the pagination links on a resource record's Container Inventory tab don't seem to play well with the facets. If someone filters containers by a facet, the pagination links don't include the facet filters. Here's an example from GW: 1. Go to the AAUP resource record 2. Navigate to the Collection Inventory tab 3. Filter by any facet values: for example, filter to just boxes in the series "Committee A on Academic Freedom and Tenure case files, 1915-2013" 4. You'll see at the bottom that as of today, there are 17 pages of results. One would expect that the URL to page 2 of the results would be a link to page 2 of the same search, with the facet filters in place. Instead, the link is to: [base URL]/repositories/#/resources/#/inventory?&page=# We couldn't find the issue reported in Jira. Thanks! I just confirmed the same behavior in the sandbox: http://test.archivesspace.org/repositories/12/resources/258/inventory?&filter_fields[]=type_enum_s&filter_values[]=box If you click on page 2 from there, the link is http://test.archivesspace.org/repositories/12/resources/258/inventory?&page=2, as you noted, instead of http://test.archivesspace.org/repositories/12/resources/258/inventory?&filter_fields[]=type_enum_s&filter_values[]=box&page=2. I?d say report it in JIRA and hopefully it?s something that can be fixed in time for the next release. Additionally, these may be specified with a list of relator fields drawn from http://www.loc.gov/marc/relators/relaterm.html. Among the responses we received, there was a lot of overlap in the systems the community would like to see integrated with ArchivesSpace. Which is great, because it means there could be opportunities to collaborate and create widely beneficial solutions. We (the Integrations sub-team of TAC) are still thinking about what to do next with the information we?ve gathered and what we can do to facilitate future integrations work. We?ll continue to keep you all posted, and we hope to keep conversations like this going. I know that both the RAC and the Bentley have done a lot of intellectual legwork to really think through which system should be the system of record for various types of information and how it should communicate, and I wonder if this could be generalizable to future integration work. For instance, when I worked with Mark Custer, Mary Caldera and Euan Cochrane on the Preservica integrations at Yale, we had splendid fights about where description should be authored and how granularly it should be represented in each system (I'm not 100% thrilled with how this worked out in Preservica, by the way -- URLs are stored in archival object records rather than the way I would like to see them as digital object records, and connecting aggregations of electronic records from Preservica to ArchivesSpace AOs isn't as sophisticated as I would like). I wonder if this group, after it has looked at all of these wished-for integrations, could provide feedback and guidance about how integrations should and shouldn't behave in accordance with archival description best practices. The Alma Integrations plugin takes as input a linked resource and checks that field to see if an MMS ID exists. If it finds one you have the option to push new bibliographic metadata (using the MARC exporter) to Alma, or to add new holdings (using a controlled list of DU holdings codes). If it doesn?t find one, you have the option to create a new BIB and assign whatever MMS ID Alma creates to the user-defined field automatically. It doesn?t do anything to link AS Top Containers with Alma items yet, but that?s the next step. Happy to talk about this more and get more use cases for it in whatever medium people like! -k From: > on behalf of "Hughes, Margaret" > Reply-To: Archivesspace Group > Date: Monday, June 4, 2018 at 1:49 PM To: Archivesspace Group > Subject: Re: [Archivesspace_Users_Group] ArchivesSpace Integrations Wish List Thanks so much for your response, Seth, and for including an example of the functionality you?d like to see in a CONTENTdm/ASpace integration. For example, we use a script[1] to find all of the objects in CONTENTdm that match the title, date, and collection identifier fields to create ArchivesSpace digital objects + instances so that the AS EAD and PDF exports will link to our objects in CONTENTdm. Granted, this title/date matching wasn't perfect, but 97% was close enough that the remaining 14 could be easily reviewed manually. This sure beats making a few thousand, or even a few hundred manual digital object records. Of course, I'm running this script on my own computer which isn't an ideal workflow. It would be better if this were a plugin with a drop-down menu button and configuration screen so that ArchivesSpace users can initiate the matching and import on their own. If someone wants to port the code to Ruby, make the necessary configuration pages, and/or generally improve it; I think there are plenty of people who would appreciate it. 1: https://github.com/seth-shaw-unlv/small-stuff/blob/master/cdm-update-as/cdm_link_as.py On Tue, May 29, 2018 at 9:47 AM, Hughes, Margaret > wrote: Hi all, The Integrations sub-team of TAC (Technical Advisory Council) is interested in hearing about your most desired ArchivesSpace integrations. I am following the troubleshooting steps in the Archon migration documentation fro: https://archivesspace.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Archon-to-ArchivesSpace-Migration-Tool-Instructions.pdf I understand why multiple collection records cannot share the same CollectionID, ParentID and SortOrder. You can't have two items in a list both occupying position 2, for example. However, I don't think there is anything contradictory about having multiple records with ParentID of 0 all sharing the same sort order, as long as their CollectionID's are different. Page 5, sections c/d of the documentations says: "c. Optionally, if the migration fails, check for ?duplicate? collection content records. ?Duplicate? records are those that occupy the same node in the collection/content hiearchy. To check for these records, run the following query in mysql or sql server. SELECT ParentID, SortOrder, count (*) from tblCollections_Content Group by ParentID, SortOrder HAVING count(*) > 1; d. The query above checks for records that occupy the same branch and same position in the content hierarchy. If you discover such records, the sort order value of one of the records must be changed, so that both records occupy a unique position. " As an aside, the first instance of Count(*) has an extraneous space which will prevent the query from running. An example result row from running this query on our Archon database yields: ParentID SortOrder count(*) 0 30 3 When I examine these three records, they all have unique CollectionID's. I believe this is only telling me that there are three top-level collections which each possess a child record occupying SortOrder 30. Since these records would never appear in the same finding aid listing, I don't see this as problematic. Should the query include CollectionID in order to find those records which really do share the same SortOrder position within the same collection? Or, do I misunderstand the results I am getting? thanks, DOUG SIMMONS Assistant Manager, Morris Library Systems MORRIS LIBRARY MAIL CODE 6632 SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY 605 AGRICULTURE DRIVE CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS 62901 dsimmons at siu.edu P: 618-453-1026 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Version v2.1.10 (https://github.com/harvard-library/aspace-import-excel/releases/tag/v2.1.10) contains two important changes: 1. A typo that had crept into the import spreadsheet (https://github.com/harvard-library/aspace-import-excel/blob/master/templates/aspace_import_excel_template.xlsx ) prevented thumbnail URLs from loading into Digital Objects. I abjectly apologize, and thank @ebrplSpecialCollections (whoever you are :-) for spotting and reporting it. 2. A Pull Request from Mark Cooper at Lyrasis has been accepted that enables institutions who have proxies set up for their ArchivesSpace instance to be able to use this plugin. As always, Issues and/or Pull Requests via GitHub are welcome. Cheers, Bobbi -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It has a high CPU usage for Java all the time, averaging (according to top) over 100% (across two CPUs), which triggers alerts in VMware. Here?s some of the relevant specs: * Ubuntu 16.04 64 bit running on VMware * 2 x CPU * 4 GB of RAM * 80 GB disk It?s running Java 8: java version "1.8.0_181" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_181-b13) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.181-b13, mixed mode) It seems to be constantly indexing, so I temporarily disabled indexing in config.rb. It didn?t seem to make much of a difference ? Java was still using over 100% CPU. I used the same config.rb file as the old SUSE dev server. These are the settings we have enabled in config.rb: AppConfig[:db_url] = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/archivesspace?user=aspace&password= &useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=UTF-8&serverTimezone=EST" AppConfig[:db_max_connections] = 10 AppConfig[:backend_url] = "http://localhost:8089" AppConfig[:frontend_url] = "http://localhost:8080" AppConfig[:public_url] = "http://localhost:8081" AppConfig[:backend_log_level] = "warn" AppConfig[:plugins] = ['local', 'lcnaf'] AppConfig[:mysql_binlog] = false AppConfig[:frontend_proxy_url] = proc { AppConfig[:frontend_url] } AppConfig[:public_proxy_url] = proc { AppConfig[:public_url] } AppConfig[:enable_backend] = true AppConfig[:enable_frontend] = true AppConfig[:enable_public] = true AppConfig[:enable_solr] = true AppConfig[:enable_indexer] = true AppConfig[:enable_docs] = true AppConfig[:report_page_layout] = "letter landscape" AppConfig[:report_pdf_font_family] = "\"DejaVu Sans\", sans-serif" Finally, here are our Java settings in archivesspace.sh: ASPACE_JAVA_XMX="-Xmx2048m" ASPACE_JAVA_XSS="-Xss2m" ASPACE_JAVA_MAXPERMSIZE="-XX:MaxPermSize=256m" If there?s some settings/troubleshooting I should try, please let me know. You might try cd-ing to archivesspace/lib/ directory and running it manually with something like this command: (not sure if it needs an adjustment for windows) java -jar fop.jar fo.xml -pdf fo.pdf using this as input ( I?ve run your EAD xml thru the first stage using archivesspace/stylesheets/as-ead-pdf.xsl & saxon ) and see if you get any helpful or interesting error messages. And if you want to try generating that fo.xml yourself, you can try something like this, relative to the same lib directory, and replacing EAD.XML with actual path. java -jar ../gems/gems/saxon-xslt-0.8.2.1-java/vendor/saxonica/saxon9he.jar -xsl:../stylesheets/as-ead-pdf -s:EAD.XML -o:fo.xml > On Jul 23, 2018, at 3:25 PM, Danielle Butler wrote: > > Yes, it is definitely something! You?d just need to add the URL of your instance before ?/search? in the form?s action attribute. Here?s a simplified version of ours for an example. The original HTML contains div tags they?ve used for layout and styling that I removed for brevity. ArchivesSpace seems to need most of the fields there for the search or it has errors, but you could change the dropdowns to hidden fields with a value of the options you want. However, running reports within the ArchivesSpace staff interface has been a challenge that often produced inadequate results. Many community members have established a variety of highly technical and creative workaround to generate reports externally from the staff user interface. However, development persisted on to improve the functionalities of reports within the native application. Jr. Software Developer Sarah Morrissey (ArchivesSpace) has focused on refactoring and improving how reports can be generated in ArchivesSpace. In this webinar, Sarah will demonstrate the improvements in reports functionalities, and also provide some insight on the technical challenges she faced. Sarah worked in close collaboration with ArchivesSpace Technical Lead Laney McGlohon as well as the ArchivesSpace User Advisory Council Reports sub-team. The Reports sub-team advances the ArchivesSpace reports module by defining reports conceptually and technically, documenting how to use the reports module, and suggesting enhancements to the report processes. Recommendations made by the sub-team are available on the wiki: https://archivesspace.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/AC/pages/101847232/Reports+Subteam+Recommendations+for+Predefined+Reports Please feel free to bring any questions you have. Presenters: Sarah Morrissey (Jr. Software Engineer, ArchivesSpace) is a Computer Science student at Georgia Tech with a particular interest in data management. She has worked on the ArchivesSpace program team as a co-op student over the past year, working on a variety of technical projects including the Archivists' Toolkit migration tool, the Archon migration tool, an ArchivesSpace Windows installer, and improving the reports functionalities in ArchivesSpace. Who should attend: Everyone interested in seeing the new reports functionalities in ArchivesSpace. Questions? The quick way to do so would be to create a plugin (in plugins/[plugin-name]/public/model/archival_object.rb) that overrides the cite function, and adding the plugin to your config/config.rb file's AppConfig[:plugins] line. It sounds like what you're trying to do should be straightforward, although you may have to get into the weeds of the JSON models to find the data that you need.
