[Archivesspace_Users_Group] bulk uploading of Archival Objects via Excel Spreadsheet- how large is too large?

I have had success uploading this template in 2.1.2 while testing with just a few rows of data. I now need to upload *for real* a spreadsheet that contains 11,000 rows of data. I tried to load it and got an error message that says "Processing Stopped at Row 0". That seems like a pretty weird error given that Row 0 doesn't exist and that I am able to successfully load a test of several lines of this data, so I'm guessing it is trying to tell me the file is too large. I have now put series 1, which is about 500 rows of data, in its own spreadsheet and am going to try to upload just that.
Does anyone have an idea from their own testing how many rows the system can handle processing in one spreadsheet?

Hi, VivianLea,
Take a look at the template, and see if it meets your needs; you do, however, have to create the Resource, however minimally, in ArchivesSpace somehow (could be interactively, of course!)
Cheers,
Bobbi

Hi Bobbi,
...so this would get our raw data from Excel into ASpace without going through an EAD transformation? I'm migrating from an ANCIENT DOS system which I've been able to get out to excel. Once I have that cleaned up, if I and my IT partner can skip the transformation step, that would be beyond fabulous! There are only 15 fields to come over, so it would be very easy to map them to your template.
Looking forward to your response, which might make my whole month!
All the best,
VivianLea

Library Technology Services, which supports the Harvard Library, is pleased to announce the availability of a new plugin, aspace-import-excel, available on GitHub at https://github.com/harvard-library/aspace-import-excel<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__github.com_harvard-2Dlibrary_aspace-2Dimport-2Dexcel&d=CwMFAg&c=C90XguLnqhMT2ADRaOs3gQ&r=balEICFvGrVJ8Sr6vcdFtVtZaJWT42A5myJ4zXSQILc&m=GXMnvtV2cyS8rDYQOUdBae-J3_5pKCeySUAi9E3PwPI&s=fCSeo6kcKxmI1Bf3tiPlXtQOAYoXx6EI3FqCbRRJ7zA&e=<https://github.com/harvard-library/aspace-import-excel%3Chttps:/urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__github.com_harvard-2Dlibrary_aspace-2Dimport-2Dexcel&d=CwMFAg&c=C90XguLnqhMT2ADRaOs3gQ&r=balEICFvGrVJ8Sr6vcdFtVtZaJWT42A5myJ4zXSQILc&m=GXMnvtV2cyS8rDYQOUdBae-J3_5pKCeySUAi9E3PwPI&s=fCSeo6kcKxmI1Bf3tiPlXtQOAYoXx6EI3FqCbRRJ7zA&e=>> .
Using the provided spreadsheet template, users can go to a Resource, and either add or insert the set of Archival Objects that have been defined in the spreadsheet.
Please note carefully the following paragraph in the README:
The intention is not to completely reproduce a Finding Aid as presented in an EAD XML, or to allow for every permutation of Archival Object creation within ArchivesSpace. We are aiming for the "80% rule"; that is, at least 80% of the work that would be done interactively can be replaced by an excel spreadsheet; additional refinements to individual archival objects (such as addition of agents-as-subjects, assignment of locations to top-level containers, etc.) would take place interactively.
Installation information is on the main README file, with User Documentation at https://github.com/harvard-library/aspace-import-excel/blob/master/user_documentation/USER_DOCUMENTATION.md<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__github.com_harvard-2Dlibrary_aspace-2Dimport-2Dexcel_blob_master_user-5Fdocumentation_USER-5FDOCUMENTATION.md&d=CwMFAg&c=C90XguLnqhMT2ADRaOs3gQ&r=balEICFvGrVJ8Sr6vcdFtVtZaJWT42A5myJ4zXSQILc&m=GXMnvtV2cyS8rDYQOUdBae-J3_5pKCeySUAi9E3PwPI&s=J4VWVV6rAX9keFG8WHk40diJhihn7Csss69FNUy-cho&e=<https://github.com/harvard-library/aspace-import-excel/blob/master/user_documentation/USER_DOCUMENTATION.md%3Chttps:/urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__github.com_harvard-2Dlibrary_aspace-2Dimport-2Dexcel_blob_master_user-5Fdocumentation_USER-5FDOCUMENTATION.md&d=CwMFAg&c=C90XguLnqhMT2ADRaOs3gQ&r=balEICFvGrVJ8Sr6vcdFtVtZaJWT42A5myJ4zXSQILc&m=GXMnvtV2cyS8rDYQOUdBae-J3_5pKCeySUAi9E3PwPI&s=J4VWVV6rAX9keFG8WHk40diJhihn7Csss69FNUy-cho&e=>> , including workflow, step by step usage, and extensive (exhaustive? :-) explanation of the Spreadsheet Template.
This plugin was designed to aid the Harvard Library archival community, but we hope that it may be useful to other archivists in the ArchivesSpace community.
Pull requests welcome. If you encounter problems, please create an issue on the GitHub repository.
Cheers,
Bobbi Fox, Maintainer
