[Archivesspace_Users_Group] EAC-CPF

Hi Brad,

Here's one example: in our database, search for Pauline Alderman. In the public interface, you'll see the related collection, and the historical note from the EAC record I imported. Can you get to our admin site? If not, let me know and I'll give you access. You will need to do so to see the record as it appears there. I'm also attached the EAC record as downloaded from ASpace (Alderman_Pauline_eac.xml), and my original EAC record that was imported (alderman.xml).

Another thing I just noticed was that the record ID I originally assigned was overwritten by an ASpace record ID. That's not a huge deal, but I went through a whole process of developing a syntax for EAC record IDs that I'd like to keep.

Thanks,
Sue

Hi, Sue,

Could you send me a couple of the EAC records with which you are encountering the problems you describe below? I'll work through them over the next day or so, and then get back to you with observations and / or questions.

1. However, do let me confirm your suggestion: EAC was not fully supported with the 1.0 release. To compensate for that Cory Nimer of BYU and I have been developing a specification that will extend the agent module and provide more complete support for EAC records, as well as MARC authority records. This effort is noted in Jira AR-916<https://archivesspace.atlassian.net/browse/AR-916>. There are also a few other related stories in Jira, all labeled "eac".

Cory and my efforts has been proceeding in fit and starts but we hope to share a specification with the community in October, if not sooner.

Best,

Brad W.

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone has made use of the EAC-CPF functionality of ASpace yet. I've got a bunch of EAC records I created before we migrated, and I'd like to start uploading them, but I'm noticing some oddities in the few that I have uploaded.

1) When I download a record that I imported, the biographical/historical note doesn't get exported.

2) When I merge a record with an existing Agent record, the related resource doesn't show in the published view (it shows up in the edit view)

3) Related entries (records and agents) in the original EAC xml file don't get imported (and thus don't show up)

There are a few more, but these are enough to get us started.

I'd really like to be able to start using this feature, but am I correct in assuming it's still not ready for prime time?

Thanks,
Sue
