The current migration tools, were not designed to work with data other than from AT or Archon, nor are there any plans to extend them to work with other data sources. That said, their respective source code will be made available to the public at some point, so anyone would be free to modify them. A familiarity with Java for the AT tool, and Jruby for the Archon tool would be needed though. As for migrating PastPerfect data, we are currently working on a general purpose tool for migrating data from an Excel File into ASpace so that may of interest to you. I believe excel file can be exported from PastPerfect. The real challenge with this approach would be the mapping of the data between the two systems. 2. Since ASpace is designed for integration with other software tools using basic http protocols, then synching with Fedora should be possible. The catch of course, is that custom software needs to be written that acts as the middle man between Fedora and ASpace. In summary, what you want to accomplish will likely require developer resources to do the customized data migrator and middleware for Fedora/ASpace. I've created a bug report for this issue, which you can track with this link: https://www.pivotaltracker.com/story/show/71019508 According to the "Import Mapping for Resources from EAD2002 to ArchivesSpace" document (available here, http://www.archivesspace.org/importexport), elements should be supported by the ArchivesSpace import process. Regarding your question about the format of the unit title, "Rebay, Hilla (2 folders)(1 restricted)": in general, I would record extent information separately in a physdesc element, like so: 2 folders In your example, however, I probably wouldn't record that physdesc statement at all since you already indicate that there are two folders based on the container information (i.e. 1-2). If the folders weren't numbered and it was still important to provide a folder count, then that would be a different story. Additionally, I would use the element to indicate any sort of restriction statements that pertain to access, but in that case it might be better to split this level of description up into two separate statements, since the restriction only applies to one of the two folders. I'm sure that doesn't help much right now, but you could get stuff to import by converting the EAD beforehand, converting each daogrp/daoloc into a dao with a daodesc.... Or something like that. Please see the documention for information on how to upgrade your ArchivesSpace installs. This release includes upgrading Rails to 3.2.18, which addresses an important security patch. It is recommended that users update ArchivesSpace in order to apply this patch. This release marks a transition from the work performed by Hudson Molongo on the project to the ArchivesSpace community. It was a pleasure working with James Bullen, Mark Triggs, Payten Giles, and Brian Hoffman, and we hope to continue to collobrate with them in the future. There was a slight delay in this release, as we found there to be some performance bottlenecks affecting use of the Archivist Toolkit and Archon migration tools against large datasets. We believe we have mitigated these issues to a level that ensures that the data is transferred properly in a reasonable amount of time. This release also supports use of the Archon to ArchivesSpace migration tool and includes the following features and fixes: * FEATURE #70922880: Update Rails to address CVE-2014-0130 * FEATURE #64190548: As an archivist, I want the system to enforce a uniqueness constraint on the authorized name of an agent * BUG #67092028: EAD Converter chokes on some EAD tags being blank. * BUG #54942792: EAD import: some content being imported in two locations * FEATURE #47693893: As an Archivist I want Publish? to be set as false on everything when I first create a record * FEATURE #65211392: As a repository manager, I would like to export an EAD with numbered s. * FEATURE #64905804: As a repository manager, I would like display of title information to be consistent for all archival objects in the Public UI * FEATURE #62805480: As a repository manager, I would like to make "create / update subject and agent records" explicit in the group permission options * FEATURE #65826898: As a repository manager, I would like to have the option of including digital objects s in my EAD export. * FEATURE #67289478: Resources do not delete on cascade in MySQL * FEATURE #47583999: As an archivist, I want clearly-labeled buttons for adding events to Chronologies * FEATURE #44934349: EAC-CPF export: maintenanceAgency mappings / pulling repo context into exports * BUG #64176304: Unpublished component are being displayed component list in public UI. * FEATURE #65829508: As a repository manager, when I indicate a record (parent or component) should not be published, then all components contained within that record context (all children of the record marked "not published") should not be published or retrievable via searching. * FEATURE #65211048: As a repository manager, I would like the finding aid title to be required when providing a description of a finding aid. * BUG #64828088: MARCXML Import should allow a MARCXML record with date type = "s" to have a null second date. * FEATURE #61361744: Support importing of large sets of MARCXML records * FEATURE #64190600: As an archivist, I want the importer to match incoming records to existing agents if possible, creating new agent records if no match is found * BUG #64175554: Staff side searches are not constrained to selected scope * FEATURE #51597537: As an Repository Manager or Administrator, I want to be able to configure what appears in browse screens * FEATURE #65588076: Add REST endpoint to get ASpace Backend Information * FEATURE #65587716: Add REST endpoint to suspend indexer * BUG #59985522: Windows: application cannot resolve gem paths if pathname has any spaces in it * FEATURE #64190840: As an archivist, I don't want an agent to have two identical alternative name records. * BUG #68437254: Cannot save resource component that has attached digital objects. * BUG #64855666: Importing a set of MARCXML records results in the date statement for each MARC record being recorded in all of the MARC records imported from the set. * BUG #66596734: As a repository manager, I do not want suppressed records (accession, resource, resource component, digital object, and digital object components) to be "cast" to the public UI. * FEATURE #65477970: As a repository manager, I would like to change to "Indirect " the term "Inverted" now present in the Name Order enum list in the Name Form template * FEATURE #65475942: As a repository manager, I want personal names to import in Indirect order when occurring as such in the source record. * FEATURE #64336538: As an archivist. After doing an install on the v1.0.9 release, I noticed the build that was originally posted on the github site had a few dependencies that were packaging in multiple versions of the same library. All the tests were passing, but this can theoretically cause issues if the frontend, backend, public, and indexer apps are using different versions of the same library. It also unnecessarily bloats the distribution package. I went back and nailed down most of the library versions, rebuilt the code, and posted it to the github page. Sorry this is a little unorthodox, but I wanted to nip this one quickly. Let me know if you have any questions. best, chris. There actually was a v1.0.8 release, but it was an internal release that was issued to the public. The reasoning is that is was a relatively minor release and some feedback indicated some users were not comfortable with the quick release cycle, since it required some technical work to perform the upgrade. Regardless, you can go from v1.0.4 or v1.0.7.1 to v1.0.9 directly. Just be sure to run the setup-database script, as per the upgrade documentation. best, chris. I think the concern would be this could return a very large JSON response ( and load on the DB) , since resources can have a large number of children. The current practice is to get the tree ( which returns URIs, titles, and some of the basic MD) and load the children as needed... I just threw something together that might work for you here => https://gist.github.com/cfitz/e29389c3f3830f589700 It's in ruby and it requires the rest-client gem . ( $ gem install rest-client ... not to be confused with the annoyingly named "restclient" gem) This will get a resource, then iterate through the children and merge in the their records and spit out the resource JSON files into a directory. Hopefully it gives you the general idea... Let me know if you have any questions... best, chris -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Even if you don't get this message when loading an EAD, if it has a related or separated materials section, you should check the EAD in ArchivesSpace to ensure the correct title and id are in the record (it's likely to be one of the titles in the related/separated section) And FYI... just tested in version 1.0.9 and it still errors out, but I get a different error message: Error: #<:ValidationException: {:errors=>{"extents"=>["At least 1 item(s) is required"]}}> --Miloche -----Original Message----- From: archivesspace_users_group-bounces at lyralists.lyrasis.org [mailto:archivesspace_users_group-bounces at lyralists.lyrasis.org] On Behalf Of Bridger Dyson-Smith Sent: Friday, May 16, 2014 9:39 AM To: Archivesspace Users Group Subject: [Archivesspace_Users_Group] EAD import problem id_0 already in use Hi all, I'm getting the following error from a test import of ~100 EADs: "Error: Problem creating 'University of Tennessee President's Papers': id_0 That ID is already in use, ead_id Must be unique" My values are unique across our collections, so I'm not sure how/why this is happening. Bridger: It looks like you're getting two errors there...one is that the eadid has to be unique across the repository. However, you're saying the eadid's are unique across your EADs, so possibly you're trying to reimport an EAD that is already there? The other error you're seeing is that the id_0 has to be unique. A resource has it's unitid set to it's first id ( id_0 ), which has to be unique. Is it possible that you have 2 resources in your EAD with the same unitid? If you can email me directly your EAD, I can have a look at it.. Miloche: The error you're seeing now is about an node. The converter tries to parse out the number and type in the node ( it looks for some digits followed by some text, like "2 boxes" ), but it might be running into an issue. Are you seeing anything in the EAD that might be causing this? If you can email me your EAD, I can look at that as well.. Elizabeth: Your indexer should definitely not be conking out. How much memory do you have on this server? Miloche was kind enough to send me some samples of EADs that were causing problems and I was able to identify two bugs that were happening. One was that and in were sometimes being applied as the titles and/or ids of the parent resource. The other was that the processing of extents text was running into problems if there was leading and trailing whitespace in the text when it attempts to parse out the number and unit. I have tickets here : https://www.pivotaltracker.com/story/show/71720594 https://www.pivotaltracker.com/story/show/71720744 I have also committed a fix that should be included in the next release. But, if you want to apply the fix now to your v1.0.9, do the following : 1 ) Download the file at https://github.com/archivesspace/archivesspace/blob/master/backend/app/converters/ead_converter.rb ( you can use the "raw" url at https://raw.githubusercontent.com/archivesspace/archivesspace/master/backend/app/converters/ead_converter.rb ) 2) Edit the file and remove "require_relative 'converter' " ( first line ) and " require_relative 'lib/xml_sax'" (line 6). 3) Put this file in plugins/local/backend/model (assumes you're still loading the local plugin, which is set as a default ) Please try this out and let me know if you have any issues with it... Thanks again! best, chris. I got the same error when importing guides, and it turned out that the indexer wasn't running. I'd try to import a guide, it would report success, I would look for the guide and not find it, try to import the guide again, and it would tell me it couldn't do that because the ID was in use. Restarting the server works, but that is my only indexer maintenance option - you can probably find something a little more nuanced. I've actually had a lot of trouble with the indexer conking out after 48-72 hours of restart/upgrade, but I don't know why. Hope that helps! I'm currently working to clean up our use of subject terms and I'm making use of the Merge feature. In the old version, I did not encounter the following problem. I attempted to merge the Subject "Businessmen" into the Subject "Businesspeople." ArchivesSpace did indeed change the "Businessmen" tag into a "Businesspeople" tag for the records. When you look at those records, the tag appears as you would expect. However, the new records are not linked to "Businesspeople" and are not listed on the page for that Subject. If I do a keyword search for "Businesspeople," the records do not come up. If I do a keyword search for "Businessmen," the records do still come up and the term "Businessmen" appears on the left as a valid Subject. Despite this, there is no longer an actual Subject page for "Businessmen." Is this an ArchivesSpace issue or could something have gone wrong on our end when we made the upgrade? If this doesn't entirely make sense, I can send some screenshots to hopefully clear up the issue. Thanks, Jaime -- Jaime L. I?ve tried several different ways of encoding record_uris (as a plain string, a json string, a json list of strings? ), and several different resource URIs, but I always seem to get something like: {"error":{"record_uris":["Wanted type [String] but got '/repositories/25/resources/3610/tree'"]}} POST /batch_delete Description Carry out delete requests against a list of records Parameters [String] record_uris -- A list of record uris Returns 200 -- deleted Also: attempting to delete an empty repository from the admin interface yields the error: Cannot delete - repository not empty even though the admin browse shows no Accessions, Resources or Digital Objects in the repo, and API /repositories/:repo_id/resources?all_ids=true returns empty [ ] . However, after doing a ?transfer repository? to another repo, I am able to delete the first repository. Since we?re still testing, we?ve had to frequently resort to just deleting all of the mysql database tables and starting over fresh. ? Steve. So you could edit the value in either place, although if you're going to be using a proxy you'll want to set the proxy values directly and not fallback on the default (proc) way of setting the values. It's highly recommended to set those values to something other than the default (localhost) otherwise you'll miss some functionality that uses the proxy values (such as edit links in the public interface) -- but I'm not sure that's suggested anywhere aside from the comments in the config file, so it looks like a README update to make that more clear would be a good thing.
