[Archivesspace_Users_Group] Exporting Archival Objects in MARCXML or EAD

I’ll echo Kate’s use case #1; our workflow for generating metadata for digitized special collections content is to export item-level descriptions in MODS from our current collection management system, and right now (as far as I can tell) I can only do that in ArchivesSpace through the API. -k

Sharing archival descriptions at the component level components with external systems is a valuable way of sharing metadata. I don’t have MARC cases, but I do have four others:

1. We are currently exporting EAD metadata to our digital preservation repository to facilitate management of digital objects. Metadata in EAD will be converted to MODS for ingest into the preservation repository.

2. When we implement SharedShelf, I anticipate creating our image descriptions as components of finding aids and exporting the data either as CSV or as VRA Core for ingest via Shared Shelf to ArtStor

3. We currently offer MODS versions of our EAD for APIs, example: http://oasis.lib.harvard.edu/oasis/component/hua13014c04206.xml

4. We currently offer HTML-styled versions of the same MODS output, example: http://oasis.lib.harvard.edu/oasis/component/hua13014c04206.html

Hi, Rebecca.

ArchivesSpace does not yet support batch exporting. Nor does it support exporting of individual component records, if that is what you mean by “individual archival objects.” If that is what you mean, I would like to hear more about your use case for exporting individual components—or anybody else’s use case for the same.

Thanks,

Brad W.

Hi All,

I feel like I’m missing something obvious. I see the export button at the resource level which exports the resource level information in either EAD or MARCXML; however, we would like to export our individual archival objects or the entire collection. How do I do that?

Thank you,
Rebecca
