Webinar description: As an application fueled by the enthusiasm and energy of an incredibly proactive community, ArchivesSpace development continues to grow and evolve, sometimes faster than it can keep up. And though each release is carefully examined and tested by our Testing subteam, bugs still manage to sneak their way into the code. So, who ya gonna call? In this webinar, Jason Loeffler, Lydia Tang, Patrick Galligan, and Laney McGlohon will present an overview of an ArchivesSpace bug?s life cycle by examining the community?s approach to identifying, reporting, prioritizing, and fixing bugs. Jason will begin by describing what bugs are, Lydia will provide a demo on how anyone can submit a JIRA ticket, Patrick will share on the Development Prioritization subteam?s role, and Laney will finish by describing how the fix is designated into the code. Please feel free to bring any questions you have. Presenters: Jason Loeffler (Technology Consultant, American Academy in Rome) is a developer with over 15 years of experience working with archives and digital collections. Jason is a member of the ArchivesSpace Technical Advisory Committee, the Integrations Subcommittee, and the Development Prioritization subteam. Lydia Tang (Special Collections Archivist-Librarian, Michigan State University) has been heavily involved in ArchivesSpace activities. She currently serves on the User Advisory Council and is co-leader of the Development Prioritization subteam. She also has served on the Reports Sub-Committee and as chair of the ArchivesSpace Staff Interface Enhancement Working Group. Patrick Galligan (Digital Archivist, Rockefeller Archive Center) oversaw the RAC's migration to ArchivesSpace from Archivists Toolkit, and is a member of the ArchivesSpace Technical Advisory Committee, the Integrations Subcommittee, and the Development Prioritization subteam. Laney McGlohon (Technical Lead, ArchivesSpace) is an information scientist, software developer, librarian, and self-described data wrangler with seven years of experience working with special collections and institutional archivists. Who should attend: Everyone interested in learning about bugs and the approach our community takes to squash fix them. Questions? This event will again be held in conjunction with the SAA conference. Like last year, we're looking to do a program that combines workshops, sessions, discussion groups, and program updates. It will be free and open to all staff of ArchivesSpace member institutions. Date and location will be announced shortly. I'm looking for some ArchivesSpace members to assist me with developing the format and program, organizing face-to-face and online events, and, ideally, helping with logistics at the forum itself. If you're not planning to go to SAA this year, we could certainly still use help before and afterwards, but as you would imagine it's really useful to have as many people there to pitch in on the day of as we can. The overall time commitment will be less than 5 hours a month through August, plus any time spent at the forum itself. Please email me at christine.kim at lyrasis.org if you'd like to be involved and let me know whether or not you plan to attend SAA or otherwise be in Washington DC in August. I'm aiming to convene a first (zoom) meeting of the planning group later this month. Response requested by April 25th. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thank you for considering. I suspect that future events would draw similar interest. Dear ArchivesSpace members, First adopted in 2014, the ArchivesSpace Bylaws lay out the rules by which our community governs itself. As part of our efforts to ensure that our foundational documents continue to reflect our activities and values as our community has matured, a small working group from the ArchivesSpace Governance Board, led by Brian Schottlaender (retired University Librarian of partner institution University of California, San Diego) and including Audra Eagle Yun (University of California, Irvine) and Gregor Trinkaus-Randall (Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners), convened to draft updates to the Bylaws. The updated Bylaws were approved by the full board earlier this month and are posted on our website. http://archivesspace.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/ASpace-Bylaws-Rev.2018.03.29.pdf One of the more significant updates is changing the standard term of elected Board members from two years to three. This will provide for better continuity, more opportunities for elected representatives to complete particular initiatives, and to take advantage of the experience elected representatives gain as Board members. Another change is establishing the position of Vice-Chair for all three of our governing bodies, the Governance Board, the Technical Advisory Council (TAC) and the User Advisory Council (UAC). This will provide greater support and succession planning for the leadership of these important groups. Other changes include making Board membership clearer by emphasizing the role of the nine voting members, updating the descriptions of the TAC and UAC to reflect their activities, and making it more explicit that ArchivesSpace membership is open to institutions of all types. Thank you to Brian and his group for their work. We greatly appreciate their efforts in ensuring that the ArchivesSpace Bylaws continue to reflect our community's practices and shared values. If you have questions about the updated Bylaws, please let us know. Respectfully, Carol A.
