While we are still finishing up some larger development work that is now due in January, including the first phases of the expanded agents module specification, we wanted to close out this busy development year by putting out one last small release. This release contains a number of community pull requests and several bug fixes, most notably one that restores the ability to do truncation searches in the public user interface. A big thanks to all the community members who have provided development and submitted pull requests in 2017, including the work from Mark Cooper, Chris Fitzpatrick, Tim DiLauro, and Steve Majewski that is included in this release. You can download this release at https://github.com/archivesspace/archivesspace/releases/tag/v2.2.2. The full list of bug fixes and improvements is included in the release notes. Information on upgrading to a new version of ArchivesSpace is available at http://archivesspace.github.io/archivesspace/user/upgrading-to-a-new-release-of-archivesspace/. If you have not already upgraded to 2.2.0 or 2.2.1, we recommend going directly to 2.2.2, though, depending on the version you are coming from, you should read the special considerations for upgrading from/to different versions that are linked to from the upgrading document first. Thanks to all who have participated in the ArchivesSpace development process this year, from identifying and prioritizing issues, to writing and reviewing code for the application, to testing changes and writing documentation. We on the ArchivesSpace team are very appreciative of all the work so many have done to make the ArchivesSpace application what it is today and look forward to working with you towards many more improvements in 2018. If you have any questions or need help upgrading, please let us know. The result is attached, and we'd love your feedback before distributing it more widely in the community. We've created the roadmap in Excel but are distributing the individual views as a PDF file to ensure that everyone sees the same thing. When we post the updated roadmap to the website it will be as a series of PDFs linked from our wiki page for this (https://archivesspace.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ADC/pages/18710568/Road+Map). By its nature, the roadmap includes more detail in the near term, but more tentative information about improvements planned further out. In 2018, we'll aim to update it after every release. A few notes about this new format: Something new we've added is an impact score (1-3) for each development item to give people a sense of the relative complexity and degree of improvement it represents in the application. An explanation of what the different impact scores mean and the criteria for determining them is included at the end of the first view. The impact scores enable us to represent the value of different development projects visually for stakeholders who may be less familiar with the specifics of archival practice or application maintenance. Our roadmap now consists of a series of views targeted at the needs of different kinds of ArchivesSpace stakeholders. Here are the views included in the new roadmap: 1. An All Details view that presents our four categories of development and detailed information on where each development item is in the process, any associated JIRA tickets, who is responsible for it, and when it is targeted for release. This view also highlights items for which we are particularly interested in having community developer contributions. This will be the view for those who are really immersed in an institution's ArchivesSpace planning or who are looking to get involved in the activities of development, as well as people following a particular feature through the development process. (pages 1-6) 2. An Annual Overview view that provides some detail about development in each category for each release during the year and its relative impact. This may be most appropriate for a department head or systems person who needs to know the end result of ArchivesSpace development throughout the year, but could be useful for anyone who want to have a sense of the releases that are going to be most important to implement, but not all the information leading up to them. (pages 7-10) 3. An Impact of Enhancements view that gives a sense of the relative impact of each release during the year and the type of focus in each. This may be most appropriate for a high level administrator who just wants to see that and how ArchivesSpace is progressing. (page 11) 4. Release-specific views that list what's included in a specific release. These will be appropriate for anyone looking for a snapshot of what was or will be in each release. (pages 12-21) I know it's a very busy time of year, but if you do have feedback, it would be great if you could send it to me by Wednesday, December 20. We'll then aim to distribute the roadmap to the community overall and post it online before the year is through. Thanks for all your help this year, and thanks in advance for any attention you're able to give this before 2017 concludes. As mentioned in yesterday's monthly update, I'll also be presenting a webinar on the new roadmap on January 17 at 2:00 ET for those who want to dive into it with us a bit more deeply. I look forward to connecting with many of you there and in many other ways in the new year.
