This year's streamlined report highlights some major themes of our activities last year (and always). Thanks to all of you for all you've done and do to sustain and move the application and the community forward, even in these especially challenging times. We encourage you to share the ArchivesSpace annual report with others at your institutions and anyone else with an interest in ArchivesSpace. We hope that it may be especially helpful in conveying the value of ArchivesSpace, and the value of ArchivesSpace membership, to resource allocators at your institutions. In addition to this email, you can find it online at https://archivesspace.org/archives/6574. We welcome feedback and ideas on this or future annual reports. Please feel free to email us at ArchivesSpaceHome at lyrasis.org at any point. We were pleased to welcome new board member Annie Benefiel, University Archivist and Digital Collections Librarian from Grand Valley State University. She has joined the board for a three-year term beginning this year, representing the medium-sized member institutions. The operations report highlighted active participation by members in many community events, including the online annual member forum, as well as other support and resources that have been especially important to members during the COVID-19-related lockdown. We also discussed some next steps for the many antiracism and inclusion ideas community members suggested during community discussions and feedback opportunities held during the summer. The financial reports show that the program?s financial position continues to be strong. Kat Stefko is now the board liaison to both the Technical and User Advisory Councils. We were pleased to have UAC Chair Brittany Newberry and TAC Chair Trevor Thornton join the board meeting to hear more about their work, especially the increased cross-council collaboration at both the leadership level and the sub-team level. John Wilkin let the ArchivesSpace board know that at the end of FY 20/21, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) will conclude their role as a founding partner and will no longer be an ArchivesSpace member. This change is driven by UIUC?s commitment to incorporate their archival information and workflows into the UIUC microservices-based repository Medusa and comes with full support for the continued success of ArchivesSpace. Through their work on the Mellon Foundation grant that established ArchivesSpace, UIUC, along with NYU and UC San Diego, established the founding partner concept to allow for fiscal stability, governance, and leadership while the program grew. The Board expressed its thanks to John Wilkin for his long-standing service and to UIUC for serving ArchivesSpace through the early years of the program and our transition to a sustainable community. Over the next year the ArchivesSpace Board will explore any needed changes for Bylaws. As always, the Board welcomes your feedback. Feel free to reach out directly to me or to your elected representative. On a personal note, I am pleased to be working with you as Governance Board chair this year. While this year is vastly different than what I thought it might be when I was elected, I look forward to the next steps we take together to continue to make ArchivesSpace the best possible program and community it can be. October 2020 Development We're finishing up the next release and expect to have a release candidate by early next week. ArchivesSpace 2.8.1 will include improvements to the spreadsheet importer, additional settable record type preferences, bug fixes and small feature improvements, and infrastructure upgrades. It will also include some performance, indexer, and small backend and staff interface improvements courtesy of work Hudson Molonglo did for Queensland State Archives. Once the release candidate is available we'll have a small window for additional testing and then hope to have the release itself ready in early November. You can preview these changes on our test server at http://test.archivesspace.org/staff (username admin/password admin). We encourage you to test these improvements, especially for the spreadsheet importer, with your own data if you can. Every bit of testing and feedback helps us ensure that the changes are doing what they should and improves the release. ArchivesSpace Anti-racism and Inclusion Initiatives Progress Thank you to everyone who has participated in our ongoing discussions and feedback opportunities around anti-racism and inclusion. We have created a section of the ArchivesSpace wiki devoted to the community-supported initiatives that have come out of these discussions. It includes information about the initiatives themselves as well as links to resources and work in the wider archives and related communities. We will be adding to these pages as the initiatives develop and grow, and there will be many different ways for community members to get involved. You can follow the progress here. Please reach out to us if you have questions or feedback about any current ArchivesSpace anti-racism and inclusion initiatives or would like to suggest new work to be done. Our email is ArchivesSpaceHome at lyrasis.org or you can submit feedback anonymously here. Thank you for working with us to make ArchivesSpace ? as an application, a community, and a program ? a richer, more inclusive place.
