October 2016 Update

Development

The prioritization survey closed on September 16. Thanks to all Member Representatives who responded on behalf of their institutions! The Prioritization subteam is analyzing this data and will be using it to complete the development roadmap for the remainder of FY 2016-17.

ArchivesSpace is hiring for a Technical Lead. The Technical Lead will be responsible for the overall development of the software, establishing a technical roadmap and management of a community-based code contribution process. The Technical Lead will work with the community to engage a broader set of developers to participate in the program, providing technical guidance, support and leadership to create a robust developer community. The person in the position will also contribute code. This position will replace the previously posted Developer position. If you are interested, or know of people who are interested, more information and a link to the full description is available on the LYRASIS Open Positions page at https://www.lyrasis.org/job/Pages/LYRASIS-Positions.aspx.

In addition, we will be contracting for additional development support, both to accomplish desired work while the technical lead position is open and to address additional high priority development needs. We hope to make an announcement with specifics about this very soon.

Rights Management Specification Available for Review

As previously announced, representatives from the ArchivesSpace member community, program team, and Artefactual, Inc., have been working on a specification for an enhanced rights management module in ArchivesSpace. They would now like to present this work for wider community review and recently made available via the ArchivesSpace Users Group a set of files including a summary description of the proposed enhancements; a delineation of the data model; some information on migration and mapping between Archivematica and ArchivesSpace, as well as mapping to PREMIS; and wireframes illustrating how the proposed changes would be reflected in the ArchivesSpace staff interface. Please contact Brad Westbrook (brad.westbrook at lyrasis.org<http://lyrasis.org>), Hillel Arnold (harnold at rockarch.org<http://rockarch.org>) and/or Max Eckard (eckardm at umich.edu<mailto:eckardm at umich.edu>) for more information. The group would like to receive feedback on the draft specification by Friday, October 21, 2016.
