[Archivesspace_Users_Group] MARCXML export archival objects

Thank you everyone, for your responses. We don't have any IT staff in our library, so while the OAI-PMH looks interesting, I'm not sure we'll have the ability to take advantage of it. I'll keep an eye out for updates that the ticket is being slated for development.

I submitted the ticket that Christine mentioned that would provide this functionality. Apart from the excellent work on OAI-PMH, I can't think of a reason not to have parity between resources and archival objects apropos exporting MARC from the staff interface as well as retrieving records via a REST API endpoint.

I briefly corresponded with Esha Datta at NYU on this matter last year. Maybe if Esha is listening she could chime in? As I recall this would entail extending the export helpers module and probably also the MARC model.

Because our library uses EBSCO OneSearch as its main entry box on the library website, many users look for our archival materials without going to the tab for strictly the library catalog (which has some of our collection descriptions as entries) or going to the University Archives tab where they can access Archon. Once ArchivesSpace is up and running, we may have the same issue.

We talked with EBSCO about how to get OneSearch to find archival holdings and their answer was that if archival data can be exported as MARCXML, they could include our data within OneSearch. That would expand the ability of our university students and faculty, and the community to locate and use our archives collections. AS has this ability but as Christina said, it needs to be developed.

Dear Michelle,

There is a request in JIRA, our development catalog, for this: see https://archivesspace.atlassian.net/browse/AR-1363. This issue has not been slated for development at this point, but with the OAI-PMH work that Cory mentions, it may be possible for that to be extended to a regular export as well. I’d be curious to hear if this is of interest to more people, from either a response here or a comment in the JIRA issue.

Michelle,

If you are using the 2.1 release, it is now possible to request a MARCXML record for any published resource or archival object using a GetRecord request through the OAI-PMH responder. To explore this option, you can try the test environment at http://dev.archivesspace.org/oai/sample. Additional information and a sample query are available in the configuration instructions at https://github.com/archivesspace/archivesspace#configuring-oai-pmh.

Subject: [Archivesspace_Users_Group] MARCXML export archival objects

Hello all,

I’m a new member to the listserv and a new ArchivesSpace user. I’ve been reading through the archives and have seen a few posts with others asking about the ability to export MARCXML for something other than the resource level. Do you know if there are any projects that exist or are in the works to develop this capability?

Thanks,
Michelle
